Life comes at you fast
Don't take too much away from openers.
We saw Argentina lose their first game vs Saudi Arabia at Qatar 2022, then they won the World Cup.
Spain tied 0-0 at halftime to Cape Verde doesn't mean anything, really.
Lamentables: 🇵🇾🇨🇭🇹🇷 🇪🇨 🇹🇳
El peor: 🇿🇦
Van a mejorar: 🇪🇨 🇧🇷 🇹🇷 (y confío en que 🇲🇽)
El ganador del corazón del público: 🇨🇼 💙💛
Expanded field might mean we get a few more games that are duds, but we also get more chances for countries like Cabo Verde to do that.
Amazing achievement. The World Cup, man.
Cape Verde has a population of just 491,000, making it one of the smallest nations ever to reach the FIFA World Cup.
The island nation also has deep ties to Massachusetts, home to one of the largest Cape Verdean communities in the world.
That Spain draw was pretty consequential because if they finish second in Group H, they'll probably face *Argentina* in the Round of 32. Now, a 37% chance of that matchup happening.
I have no problem with hydration breaks. It benefits players and advertisers. Win/win. Yes, it changes how you play/coach/watch, but so did substitutions, 3 pts for win, VAR, etc. Evolve and adapt. There will be a generation whose version of the beautiful game includes quarters.
🇨🇻 Cape Verde’s 26 attacking-third touches vs Spain were the fewest of any team in a World Cup game on record (since 1966).
🇨🇻 Cape Verde keeper Vozinha led the team with 68 touches, most by a keeper in a regulation World Cup game since 1998 (Croatia’s Drazen Ladic vs NED).
Spain's Mikel Oyarzabal is the first player on record since 1966 to play the first 30 minutes of a FIFA World Cup match without touching the ball once.

I was so wrong about the ticketing situation for the World Cup. Prices are not coming down. They’re going up. Why? Because everyone’s trying to catch a game.
As of this morning, there is NO ticket selling less than $1,100 for *any* game in Dallas for the rest of the WC.
Wow.
Nobody expects the Spanish inquisition? They will now. Inevitable inquest. Huge scrutiny on the World Cup favourites. That was so poor, no inspiration, no width until the fliers arrived. Brilliant from Cape Verde, guts and glory of a point. A draw against all odds, against the European champions. Cape Verde ranked 64th in the world – 61 places below Spain. Population 500,000. Madrid alone is seven times that. One of the great World Cup upsets. #FIFAWorldCup
I'm convinced that 99% of success is just the ability to outlast uncertainty. The one who can tolerate the most uncertainty is the one who will eventually win.
