Stepping Up for Indigenous Culture & Knowledge
An online discussion on Indigenous Residential & Factory schools
17th February, 2024
5:00PM India | 7:30PM Philippines | 6:30AM Canada
Policies of assimilating, ‘mainstreaming’ or 'de-tribalising’ Indigenous communities by placing their children in boarding schools has been increasingly discredited and abandoned, most publicly throughout North America, Canada, Norway, Russia and Australia since the 1980s and 1990s. In India, this history and its dangers are little known, with relatively little awareness of how they are being replicated among many of India’s Indigenous communities. Education or rather formal school-induced assimilation had been evolving slowly and hence invisibly in India but this has now reached mammoth proportions in the Indian subcontinent, more than in any other Asian country.
IPLLK Collective, IPMSDL and Kairos will host a two-hour webinar on ‘Sharing community experiences of the impacts of residential and factory schools on Indigenous children from Canada, Australia and India and a sharing of experiences of community learning initiatives from the Lumads of Philippines’.

URGENT: Heavy police force has surrounded Todgatta and protest leaders are being searched and harassed!
Today early morning, police forces from multiple thanas arrived at Todgatta, the main protest site, and took all the protest leaders and important activists.
This is how India's Hindu supremacists continues to rewrite our history and manufacture an imaginary past. We reiterate the direct complicity of ANTHROPOLOGISTS in this dangerous "decolonisation" project. Shame shame @ignca_delhi@ansigoi@icssr@MinOfCultureGoI

The 2nd Public Hearing, required to obtain the env clearance for Sijimali bauxite mining project of Vedanta, met with equal resounding opposition from villagers. It was held on Oct 18 at Kerpai High School premises in Thuamul Rampur block of Kalahandi, Odisha. ✊
Rayagada police and admin have been atrocious on people of the proposed mine areas to help Vedanta in the upcoming 'public hearing' of the bauxite project scheduled on Oct 16, 2023. A report on why people are demanding cancellation of the hearing in an atmosphere of terror. 👇👇
Odisha is ‘the best kept secret’ for no one to know about the state repression and corporate loot happening through anti-tribal policies.

@fiscalsavvy @Jyotsnasmailbox Stooping so low that you have to dig out an old tweet in a current scenario completely unrelated to it only proves how jealous people are of her.
🗒️‼️‼️📢📢
An urgent call for the media fraternity to bring the violent crackdown on democratic anti-mining movements in Niyamgiri and Sijimali (Odisha) to the limelight and expose the gross human rights abuse unleashed by the Govt of Odisha at the behest of mining corporations.
