@842wolves@mattyglesias obviously lasik and kidney transplants are different but i think there are many services above that are closer to the former. if the claim is that elective services don’t inherently have to grow at CPI/wages+ im with you! but i think that disproves this is ‘just baumol’
@mignano Is it really so trivial to catch up on models? MSFT acquired Inflection, AMZN acquired adept and both were a bust; META has spent billions trying (and failing) to build a competitive model; GOOG is lagging on coding even with the Windsurf acquihire
@nikunj i think it’s less of a free market argument and more a skepticism around knowing what the correct shape of a society should be and social engineering individual rights to achieve those ends.. i’m a classical liberal at heart
@PeterJ_Walker if every cohort of iconic companies (5b+) raises at much higher multiples early, investors might have a high false positive rate but low false negative rate at picking outliers… which is a feature not a bug for VC. would love to see your data!

That housing stock in high crime areas is underutilized because people don’t want to live there, driving up demand and rent in safer neighborhoods. Making high crime neighborhoods safer makes them more in demand, averaging down rents.
