I’ve had a policy since day one of not blocking anyone. That was back when there was genuine debate.
No longer. I’m here to talk EVs with people who are interested in them, not bots, trolls, and halfwits.
And I still don’t follow accounts that talk politics. That won’t change.
@MickamiousG I think the reality is that nobody can make money building cars in Australia unless they can do it at 100k+ per year scale. And no car sells in those volumes here anymore.
@20_1NM Australians won’t accept a poor quality product, especially as we can buy a quite well made Chinese car cheaply now. So, as you say, what’s good for us in Australia should be good for you guys in India too.
@rlaxton@WheelsAustralia That’s basically it. Want to know what the best circa $30k EV is? These guys can’t tell you, but now I know that the 2014 Mazda 2 is slightly better than the 2020 Yaris. Goodo.
@WheelsAustralia continues its recent run of ignoring EVs in comparison tests by comparing these two older-model petrol cars, despite there being a range of newer EVs of similar size and price that could also have taken part.
It’s getting old, like both these cars.
@dbmgreen@WheelsAustralia Yeah. And not getting any better. At least under the previous editor they had embraced the future but the current guy seems bent on chasing “the future isn’t coming” crowd.
Once upon a time I knew what EVERY new car on sale was. And now I just don’t, and it bothers me, because I should know but 101 generic SUVs don’t stick in my mind.
Anyway this was prompted by learning that there is a Jaecoo J8. Did you know that? Have you seen one?
@oblix78@sydney_ev But it’s not. It’s just wildly different to any other Ferrari. It’s not wildly different to a number of other EVs, front end styling excluded. If it was some new Chinese EV we’d all say “some interesting styling decisions there” and move on.
Record EV market share in May in Australia at 19.9%.
Model Y Australia’s best selling car for the first time with 5605 sold. Hilux second on 4474, Ranger third on 4005.
The market is changing fast.

“Model Y sales surged to 5,605 in the latest month, meaning it will re-establish itself as the best-selling EV in the country.”
Those are “best selling car of any kind in the country” numbers. Overall market data will be interesting.
US EV giant #Tesla posts best ever monthly sales in #Australia, hitting a new peak of 6,443 sales in May, as interest in electric vehicles continued to surge in light of fossil fuel supply crisis.. https://t.co/6o6wrcdGuN
@rlaxton Doug DeMuro was saying he’d noticed Ferrari videos on YouTube don’t do well. Again, they’ve put so many people off with their behaviour that car enthusiasts don’t care about them anymore. I feel the same.
Does the motoring media have the balls to declare that the emperor has no clothes?
Ferrari is famous for controlling the media (and its customers). A bad review will get you banned. But this can’t be glossed over.
Let’s see who has a backbone here.
@matsburaas Normally I agree with you on things but not on this. I find the interior blocky and amateurish, lacking a sporting feel, and the exterior not only doesn’t say Ferrari but is unattractive. Especially that bizarre front end.
Credit where credit is due: Doug DeMuro in his podcast this weekend has called this out as a disaster. Chris Harris and friends on their podcast similar but less stridently. Good.
