Earlier this year, after receiving emails from people in the throes of AI psychosis, I began to keep in touch with one man as he journeyed to recovery.
I'm grateful to James that he was willing to go on record. He wanted people to know: humanlike chatbots are dangerous.
Latest from me for @XtraMagazine’s Third Places series! I spoke with owners of women’s sports bars about why they feel it’s more important than ever to open their doors.

I reported on the use of “G*” as a Greenbelt code word back at the Narwhal, but I definitely didn’t realize the significance of it at the time — the asterisk made it “virtually impossible” for records containing it to be found, the information and privacy commissioner has found.
The National Post made hundreds of edits to Canadian Press wire stories related to Israel/Palestine before re-publishing them
In some cases the original author's byline was removed after significant edits

A few years ago, a black bear tried to break into a cabin as I slept inside. The incident changed my relationship with bears forever. This is my attempt to reckon with my role in what happened -- and the many ways Ontario is failing our ursine neighbours.

A feature from me about post-majority support services and the former youth in care ineligible for support. Thanks to Lily, @CaringSociety, @ChildSpotlight and more for speaking with me for part one of this two part series!
Lily Ieroniawákon Deer is still healing from the trauma she experienced growing up in the child welfare system. This story is part one of a two-part series produced as part of Spotlight: Child Welfare, a collaborative journalism project.

“There’s still a lot of things I don’t know,” Deer said. “It’s help with navigating getting your medicare card, your driver’s licence, IDs, and you just need help to have those life skills...I just didn't have that."
Grateful to Lily and the Spotlight team for this project ❤️ 3/3
Post-majority support services are supposed to help Indigenous youth who went through the child welfare system -- but what about the youth who are above the age cut-off for services, but still need that support?

from me: @survivorssec, a group set up to investigate Canada's longest-running residential school, has been told by CIRNAC that they will be receiving $0 funding this year, the result of a surplus that the group says they don't have. (1/5)

Laura Arndt, the group's lead, reached out to CIRNAC asking for clarity, but said she's had no response. Two elders I spoke to for this article, who attended the school, said that this is another way for the govt to hide the truth of what happened there. (5/5)
