@user112548@akasubski1@totithoth We know where the money went though. It went to other incubation projects and the Bungie C-suite. Things like the 2nd office gamble, parachute packages, project payback, marathon, etc. They were spending like they were rich but it was unsustainable and mismanaged.
@seb42ji0e@akasubski1@totithoth Would love to see your source on all of this. I've not run across tech debt being mentioned at all in the major reports that have come out, just Reddit speculation.
@akasubski1@totithoth New game, clear direction, very positive player reception, maybe? Likely feels safer? It could be wayyyy dumber than that for all we know.
@akasubski1@totithoth No worries! Bungie is poised to bleed a lot of insane, irreplaceable talent with the reported layoffs if they do go through. It’s sad all the way around no matter how you look at it.
@akasubski1@DirtyEffinHippy@totithoth It’s likely Sony believes those 300 are fine for now to keep on payroll and grow the base as where Destiny is a higher risk. They have the raw numbers while folks here are just speculating. Remember Microsoft ran from Bungie because of Destiny burn rate when they saw the sheets.
@akasubski1@DirtyEffinHippy@totithoth Largest overhead for gaming companies is headcount. Jason Schrier did a great video on this. April reporting showed ~550 estimated Destiny 2 staff and ~300 for Marathon if those numbers are to be believed.
@DirtyEffinHippy@totithoth Please let me know if I’m off base here Hippy, but the only way I see Destiny surviving is if the folks left pitch a new model for Destiny 2 that doesn’t burn cash and hope Sony bites? I imagine they are terrified of reinvesting only to match year of prophecy sales figures.
@makedoandmendyo Firewater. I missed you guys immensely and am so happy you were able to come back to doing what you love, even for a brief moment in time.
@PaulTassi My first day of working at a big cloud company ages back trained me on telling reporters nothing, and never admitting when a DDoS is happening. Even if this tweet was made to help, which I doubt, it had the opposite effect. Unsure why you bother with micro quotes like this.
@DestinyBulletn Paul misquoting Jason's theoretical budget numbers and putting any blame towards Marathon is wild honestly. It is leaderships job to appropriately allocate resources and would not have reshaped the creative vision of either expansion.
@tomorimoriri Backgrounds are important for me as a viewer. Depending on what type of illustrator you are, backgrounds can bring life to your art and a sense of belonging. Artists such as Simzart illustrate this concept well. Everyone has their own style though, so do what is best for you!
@JakeSucky Checking Shrouds stream, he is sitting at 15k for the launch of Cryo for Marathon. From what we can tell, they were never targeting a smash hit, especially with weekend queues only for pinnacle activities and ranked.
@SweRveR6S@INTERRO@Clayster If you’ve ever played a Bungie game, you’d know they are not making a bad game. They have many flaws as a studio but making fun games isn’t one of them.
@EzriMuldoon@Eduino96@Nikkitavia They stopped coming with the game because people wanted to buy them on their platform of choice instead of being forced to buy a PS/XBOX/PC version of the CE. The price reflects that as most CEs are around 150-200 USD
