This is Oleksii. To me, he will always be Alyosha, my childhood friend.
We spent our summers together as kids, riding bikes, climbing trees and fences, running around outside until late, laughing so loudly the whole street could hear us.
Years later, Alyosha went to war to defend Ukraine. He carried out combat missions on the Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Kharkiv fronts.
On the Kharkiv front, he was seriously wounded.
He survived, but he lost both of his legs.
It is still difficult for me to write those words about someone I remember as the boy running around beside me every summer.
Alyosha comes from a very ordinary family. There are no enormous resources behind him, no big organization that will magically solve everything. Right now, he and his family need help as he faces a completely different life after this injury.

๐๐ฅAugust 27, 2026: A railcar carrying liquefied gas caught fire on Thursday evening near the Vladimirovka railway station in Akhtubinsk. The fire occurred at 4 Cherno-Ivanova Street, prompting the evacuation of residents from seven nearby homes. Firefighters and an RZD firefighting train were deployed; traditionally no casualties were reported, and the cause of the fire remains unknown.
