My mother always believed I would find my way into recovery. She was told to cut me off by the "tough love" crowd. People also treated her as if she was somehow responsible for my addiction. The truth is, I would've died without her love and support.
My wife is alive because I make a lot of money. That’s all. Many/most people could not have done what we have done. The cards fell into place for us. A doc who speaks the language and can parse the lit and knows how to advocate for his family. The $$ to get it done. 9/
The public has been fed this idea that rehab is THE solution for problematic drug use.
There are other options- MAT, housing programs, outpatient, groups, peer support, contingency management, solution based therapy, naltrexone, to name a few.
@saramichele18 Excellent! I also think that for me personally executive dysfunction and other ADHD traits stem from my depression. They can accompany anxiety as well. And I know that the pandemic has definitely affected depression and anxiety.
@saramichele18 Executive dysfunction is rampant when we’re living in this new reality that distorts everything about the way we used to move through the world. But I always think it’s a good idea to talk to your psychiatrist although I am definitely biased.
@saramichele18 I’ve been thinking a lot about this too— I think that nearly universally the pandemic has hijacked our sense of structure, time, motivation, and focus, regardless of pre-existing diagnoses. All of these are of course traits of ADHD, but I do think they can occur for other reasons
From the drafts, a while ago: Teenage patient came into the ER by ambulance extremely sick, very scared, covered in blood, and alone. Repeatedly asked “can somebody please hold my hand?” 💔
