Hace unos años, el Parlamento Europeo pensó que era buena idea permitir a las grandes corporaciones aplicar Chat Control. Chat Control permite que las empresas tecnológicas puedan inspeccionar tus mensajes privados por si acaso cometieras un delito

Básicamente, se trata de un sistema de vigilancia masiva ejercido por empresas privadas. Hasta hace poco, además, se pretendía que dejara de ser opcional y que, con Chat Control 2.0, fuera obligatorio para todas las plataformas

Personas de prácticamente todos los grupos parlamentarios decidieron no renovar Chat Control 1.0, votando en varias ocasiones en contra de su continuidad por motivos de seguridad

Pues bien, el EPP y otros grupos han utilizado un procedimiento de urgencia para aprobar su prórroga, a pesar de no contar con una mayoría suficiente para sacarlo adelante por la vía ordinaria

Una barbaridad promovida por las propias plataformas para evitar parte de su responsabilidad legal en la persecución de actividades ilegales dentro de sus servicios

Este sistema no ayuda a cumplir ese objetivo; más bien ocurre lo contrario. Las plataformas buscan, mediante este tipo de legislaciones, trasladar la responsabilidad de lo que ocurre en sus redes a terceros y disponer de una excusa legal si algo acaba sucediendo, desincentivando cualquier acción que busque acabar realmente con los delitos

Mi madre, después de muchos años trabajando en una empresa fabricando y cargando piezas de coches, se lesionó la rodilla.

Estuvo más de un año de baja. No por gusto, ni por no querer trabajar.

Si no por que la lista de espera para operarse en la sanidad pública es de más de 1 año.

Tuvo que esperar un año con dolores para que la operasen. Igual el problema no son las bajas, si no que la sanidad esté completamente colapsada.

Si a mi madre la hubiesen operado nada más lesionarse, en vez de un año de baja, habría estado 3 semanas.

Que hubiese solucionado que le bajasen el sueldo?

I’m so sorry for everyone at id Software affected by these layoffs.

I know what it feels like to leave id while id goes on. It’s a strange and painful thing to step away from a place that holds so much of your work, friendships and history.

The people at id have done a great job moving that legacy forward. DOOM, Quake, and Wolfenstein are not easy names to carry on, especially in today’s industry. The last few games showed real care, skill and respect for what those worlds mean to people.

A note on digital preservation: id's history is critically important to the history of games. I’ve preserved id’s complete early history from our start at Softdisk through to August 6, 1996, including materials and assets that, as far as I know, id itself no longer has. I hope someone is doing the same for the company’s ongoing legacy (the work, code, assets, stories and the people behind them).

I’m thinking of everyone at id today, and everyone else affected by yesterday’s layoffs. Romero Games was there a year ago. I know how devastating it is, and my heart's with all of you.
