Lastly: DO NOT SUCCUMB TO THE CASTING COUCH. The television industry, in particular, is littered with the shattered dreams of wannabe stars that did.
Use it. Don't use it. Good luck and God bless.
Three decades in and I still get a thrill out of broadcasting. That's why I'm tough on any newbie whose potential I see. You choose: just a good time or for a LONG time - because, like most other industries, your level of excellence only really manifests years later😉
The camera and sound operators recognise the 'x' factor more readily and easier than the producers (many of whom secretly want to be the talent). So, please, respect their input at auditions if it's offered.
Also, if you don't have thickness of skin I'd advise you to get to work on that. Ours is a cut-throat, microscope employing, image obsessed world. You might not have the lewk or sound of the moment but trends change. Always have, always will.
Agents and producers talk and stalk. So, yes, your online and personal reputation really does count for something. Even established professionals lose out on gigs based on messy SM.
All I can encourage newbies to do is to keep pushing. Go for the spots that are still in the shade. Try not to talk disparagingly about other industry professionals (no matter how factual your info!) because ours really is a tiiiny world.
My 2c worth on #OpenUpTheIndustry
If I were a newcomer in the biz under its current guise, I wouldn't stand a chance. The game and it's influential players has changed so much that, even with this work and discipline ethic, I wouldn't know which door to knock on/kick in.

Reporting to the CEO can sound great
But usually it also means zero training and instant responsibility, and the ability to truly own things immediately
If that's too much, report to someone else
