Today, @GovRonDeSantis awarded #Everglades advocates George Barley (posthumously), Mary Barley, Paul Tudor Jones II, and Nathaniel Reed (posthumously) with the Governor’s Medal of Freedom, the highest honor in the state.
These recipients have played an important role in getting us to where we are today – the closest we’ve ever been to restoring the #Everglades – and it is fitting that we recognize their significant contributions during the year we celebrate @America250.
Protecting America’s #Everglades matters, for Florida’s environment and economy, as well as to Floridians and those who visit our state. It’s important that we continue the historic progress we’ve already made on the largest ecosystem restoration project in the world. #EarthDay
🏗️ On track to finish this transformative project five years ahead of the original schedule.
🌿 This will be a major victory for America’s Everglades and is a testament to the progress of our joint federal and state teams.
💧 The EAA Reservoir Project will help restore the natural flow of water south, improve water quality and protect the health of the Everglades and Florida Bay.
In July 2025, the State of Florida and the federal government entered an agreement to expedite Everglades restoration and complete the EAA Reservoir by 2029. As of today, all federally managed contracts have been executed, ensuring that the funding and resources for this project will be there through completion.
We are now on track to finish this transformative project five years ahead of the original schedule. This is a major victory for America’s Everglades and a testament to the progress our joint federal and state teams have made in just nine months.
Thank you to @POTUS & the Trump administration for securing the federal funds needed to complete the EAA Reservoir in record time. Read the full statement by Everglades Trust CEO @AnnaHoltUpton by clicking here: https://t.co/AYEh2nO3rh
What a great day for America’s Everglades. All the federal money needed to complete the federal portions of the EAA Reservoir – the ‘Crown Jewel’ of #EvergladesRestoration – has been secured!
This wouldn’t be possible without @GovRonDeSantis working w/@POTUS to cut red tape & deliver results. From Day 1, Gov. DeSantis committed to advancing the largest ecosystem restoration effort so Floridians & those who travel here could enjoy a healthy, restored #Everglades.
On #EvergladesDay, we celebrate the historic progress made so far to restore America’s beloved #Everglades. Because of our state leaders continued investments in restoration & unrelenting pursuit of its completion, the state has been able to celebrate over 80 major milestones.
👏 Today, we are celebrating the 2-year anniversary of the groundbreaking of the EAA Reservoir Project.
🖋️ In July 2025, @GovRonDeSantis announced that the State of Florida and the @USArmy reached a landmark agreement to accelerate Everglades restoration, including the EAA Reservoir Project and accelerated the timeline of the project from 2034 to 2029.
✂️ Since the agreement was signed, the project has already reached major milestones including the State of Florida’s groundbreaking of the new inflow pump station at the EAA Reservoir Project in November 2025 and the @USACEHQ and @JaxStrong ribbon cutting to celebrate the completion of the inflow/outflow canal and the seepage canal in September 2025.
💧 The EAA Reservoir Project, located south of Lake Okeechobee, will store over 78 billion gallons of water—larger than Manhattan—and deliver up to 470 billion gallons of clean water annually to the Everglades and Florida Bay. It also supports the Biscayne Aquifer, the primary source of drinking water for South Florida.
🌱 This project is designed to send more clean water south, restore ecosystems, and significantly reduce harmful discharges to the Caloosahatchee and St. Lucie estuaries.
✨ Thank you to all of the hard-working staff who made these milestones possible!
Happy #WorldWetlandsDay! Today, we celebrate America’s #Everglades – one of the world’s largest wetlands – and highlight the significant progress being made to restore this national treasure that supports Florida's water-based economy.
Florida's unprecedented & accelerated progress on #EvergladesRestoration has become synonymous with @GovRonDeSantis & his tenure as Governor. Read the full statement by Everglades Trust CEO @AnnaHoltUpton on Governor DeSantis’ State of the State address - https://t.co/dUkle0D0TH

Today marks 25 years since CERP – the largest ecosystem restoration effort in the world – became law. A quarter-century later, the goal of CERP – to restore the natural flow of water south through the #Everglades to #FloridaBay – is within reach and closer than ever before.
This funding will ensure Floridians continue to see real results for America’s largest ecosystem restoration effort & recognizes that Florida’s tourism-based economy runs on clean water. Read the full statement from Everglades Trust CEO @AnnaHoltUpton: https://t.co/vJj3LtID9I
