Hard on Miller etc but I think this is a great call by Clarke.
Gilmour, Gannon-Doak and Curtis were all propelled into the squad at a young age, with limited first team experience, and it has worked out well for them.
We need one eye on the future and Fletcher is it.
Following the news of Billy Gilmour's injury we can confirm that 19-year-old Tyler Fletcher has been added to our @FIFAWorldCup squad after making his debut against Curaรงao yesterday.
Welcome aboard, Tyler ๐ซ ๐บ๐ธ
@SPFLWatch It worked for Gilmour, Gannon-Doak and Curtis. Squad is going to have to be overhauled over next few years but for this World Cup we are blessed with midfielders and can afford a โwild cardโ.
Gilmour came in from nowhere and bossed the England midfield at Euro 2020โฆ
@Ewan_McF@ScotlandNT@FIFAWorldCup Yes 22 games, aged 19.
Fletcher has played 2, aged 19.
Ben Gannon-Doak played 12 before Scotland debut at 18. I donโt think thereโs a world of difference there and weโre talking about an area of the park where we are quite talent-rich in so can afford to gamble on a youngster.
@Ewan_McF@ScotlandNT@FIFAWorldCup Whatโs the difference between this and Gilmour playing against England at the Euros as a youngster with merely a handful of first team games at club level?
@garydavidson83@C_ENicolson World Cup was particularly impressive because of the group we had, the manner in which we did it and the fact it was off the back of being written off post-Euros
Maybe not the most flashy or fashionable but thereโs a strong argument to suggest heโs our most successful ever Scotland manager.
Sensible call tying him up on a deal before the vultures start circling the World Cup-winning manager in July.
We're delighted to confirm that Steve Clarke, Scotlandโs most successful Head Coach of all-time, has signed a new contract to continue in charge beyond this summerโs @FIFAWorldCup.
