Dear @NYCSchools no one wants to do remote learning— let kids and teachers have a snow day— we don’t need more time in front of computer screens. Also don’t assume parents can be around to help their kids with a full day of remote school. Signed NYC parents.

Sadly, CBC closing its China bureau after 40+ yrs in Beijing. In the 5 yrs I was there, official roadblocks made it increasingly difficult to report, and Beijing unresponsive in granting new visas to CBC. Still, being there remains best way to tell China story. Hope we’ll return
📢We are starting a project on int’l law & Afghanistan evacs! Inviting individuals and members of NGOs/collectives who've been involved to share their experiences. For more info & to participate, contact [email protected]‼️

Happy Labour Day. Late last month a Hong Kong judge denied former union leader Carol Ng's bail application in part because her trade union work had given her international connections that could be used to "further the hostility against the authorities."
Honoured to be shortlisted for UN SR on Torture, and even more so to be listed alongside women whose work I’ve long admired -among them @Sabrina_Mahtani@DrAliceJEdwards @Laveroha @piyamuqit. We will hopefully see the first ever female SR-T drawn from this thrilling shortlist!
