On 5 February 2026, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Clinical Trial Centre (CTC) successfully held its inaugural symposium at the CUHK Medical Centre Auditorium. Under the theme “Create, Transform, Cure”, the event brought together over 200 distinguished guests from academia, government, industry, and innovation sectors to explore Hong Kong’s role as a global hub for clinical innovation.
To combat the silent epidemic of young-onset diabetes (YOD), we are launching a four-year DNA testing programme, namely “Jockey Club Precision Prevention Programme” which aims to screen 9,000 adults aged 18 to 44 to identify those with a genetic predisposition to YOD and at high risk of developing diabetes in the next decade, for prevention or delay of onset of the disease.🧬

@CUHKMedicine learned from the @UniofOxford’s UK Prospective Diabetes Study Outcomes Model and developed the first Chinese Diabetes Outcome Model, using big data of over 21,000 type 2 diabetes patients gathered continuously from the Hong Kong Diabetes Register. The model has been validated to predict the lifetime risks of 10 major complications in individual type 2 diabetes patients based on routine measurements.

@CUHKMedicine’s 20-year follow-up on over 500 mother-child pairs has provided important new insights into the long-term impact of maternal hyperglycaemia on mothers and offspring, increasing risks in overweight and elevated blood sugar levels. The research team has also identified DNA methylation markers that could explain these long-term effects.

Great commentary by Dr. Flack and colleagues .
Key questions on PA screening💭
1️⃣will more PA screening improve followup care
2️⃣how to stratify patient for lateralisation considering limited AVS availability
3️⃣how to implement expanded PA screening without straining healthcare
