The sacrifices made by the Bradford Pals on the first day of Battle of the Somme, during #WorldWarOne will be remembered at a memorial service 110 years on.

A variation to Hackney Carriage fare tariffs has been announced by @bradfordmdc under Section 65 of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976.

The new structure will see a 20% increase in fares for the shortest journeys in the city, with the minimum charge for distances not exceeding 96 yards rising to £3.

The same rise applies to night-time and bank holiday tariffs, with the £3 minimum fare now covering distances up to 88 yards.

Christmas and New Year will see a more substantial 50% increase, with the minimum fare rising to £4.50.

A new tariff is also being introduced for journeys involving five or more passengers, with a starting fare of £4.

Waiting time charges have doubled, with each completed 60 seconds now costing 20p.

The charge for soiling a taxi has also doubled to £100.

Objections must be submitted within 14 days from the publication of the notice and people can object to the changes by writing to:

The Right Worshipful the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Chris Herd was the first to sign the Book of Condolence that @bradfordmdc opened to allow people to pay tribute to the Bradford born artist David Hockney.

You can add your own tribute to the book, which is located at the foot of the Civic staircase at Bradford City Hall

The entrance to City Hall via the Civic Entrance (front of City Hall, Centenary Square), will be open each day between 12pm and 2pm until Sunday 5th July 2026, to allow people to pay their tributes.

Disabled access is available on request by speaking to a member of staff stationed at the Civic Entrance.

The book is accompanied by a beautiful floral tribute, created by local florists Blossoms & Co which is inspired by flowers from a piece of his artwork.

The @RoyalMail is changing its letter delivery model to make the service more reliable and financially sustainable, following reforms approved by regulator @Ofcom.

2nd Class and other non-1st Class letters will no longer occur on Saturdays, but will be delivered every other weekday Monday to Friday (e.g., Mon/Wed/Fri one week, Tue/Thu the next) and aim to deliver 2nd Class mail within three weekdays.

Standard bulk business letters (used for items like bills and statements) will move to a three day delivery aim, aligned with 2nd Class.

1st Class post will remain unchanged, with next-day delivery continuing six days a week Monday to Saturday.

On Tuesday 23rd June 2026, Bradford Association for Visually Impaired People (BAVIP) are holding a travel surgery for people who are visually impaired at @FountainsChurch, Bradford, BD5 0BQ from 10am till 2pm and will be joined by @WestYorkshireCA along with local transport providers to host a Visually Impaired Accessibility Travel Drop-In Surgery,.

The aim of the event is to give people with visual impairments the skills and confidence to travel independently.

This event brings together transport providers, accessibility specialists, and local organisations to:

Provide practical, tailored support and advice

Demonstrate accessible travel tools and journey planning resources

Support tasks such as bus pass applications or renewals

Gather feedback to improve accessibility across the transport network

The inaugural Yorkshire Proms will take place at St. George's Hall #Bradford on #YorkshireDay, Saturday 1st August 2026, and will feature the Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra, @BFCS1856 and the Bantam of the Opera Choir.

The event promises an evening of music, storytelling, and audience participation, celebrating Yorkshire’s heritage and contemporary identity through a northern take on the Last Night of the Proms

The concert will include cinematic scores, rediscovered historical works, and Proms favourites, culminating in a massed folk finale designed to fill the auditorium with the sound of Yorkshire voices.

Resident doctors will once again be taking part in industrial action across @BTHFT and @AiredaleNHSFT starting at 7am on Monday 15th June 2026, till 7am on Friday 19th June 2026.

Some elective care treatments and outpatient appointments may be impacted during this period.

Please attend your appointment as normal, unless they contact you to rearrange it.

Emergency Departments are expected to be very busy and under additional pressure during this industrial action.

Before attending Accident and Emergency (A&E) please:

Use @NHS 111 online for non-urgent health advice.

Only use 999 or attend A&E for serious and life-threatening illness or injury.

They are working hard to minimise disruption and If your appointment or procedure needs to be rescheduled, then they will contact you directly.

On Saturday 18th July 2026, is the See of Beverley Northern Provincial Festival 2026 at York Minister by kind permission of the Dean and Chapter.

At 11am there will be Solemn Mass with the Rt Revd Bishop Stephen Race SSC, the Bishop of Beverley, the focus will be the Jubilee of S. Francis of Assisi (Pope Leo has announced the Franciscan Jubilee Year for 2026 - Centro Laudato Si). Children’s Ministry will be available during the Mass.

In the afternoon, Brother Finnian (SSF) will provide the Address in All Saints North Street, York, before Evensong and Benediction at 3pm by kind invitation of the Rt Revd Glyn Webster SSC.

This will be a wonderful opportunity for parishes from across the See of Beverley to gather together in large numbers to find support and encouragement.
