How to stop your crypto wallet from getting hacked or drained
Lately, I’ve seen way too many people getting their wallets drained. It’s happening a lot more often than it used to.
I’ve been in this space for over 3 years, and yeah my wallet got hacked once. That was all it took for me to tighten up everything. One mistake can wreck you.
Most hacks I’ve seen come down to this:
People connect their wallet to some sketchy site or sign a random transaction without thinking.
So how do you actually protect your wallet especially if you don’t use a Ledger?
(Even if you do use a Ledger, being careless can still get you drained.)
Here’s what I’ve learned:
1. Use a burner wallet
This one’s big.
A burner is just a separate wallet with a small amount of funds. It’s the wallet you use for testing new dApps, minting, claiming random airdrops anything that feels even slightly risky.
Don’t ever connect your main wallet to those sites.
That’s how people lose everything.
Also don’t just make a sub-account and call it a burner.
Sub-accounts usually share the same seed phrase as your main, which means if one gets compromised, both are at risk.
Real burners = completely new wallet, brand new seed phrase.
Create them using tools like @phantom, @solflare, @jup_mobile, or @Rabby_io.
Back it up, reset the app, make another if you need to.
2. Don’t save your seed phrase on the cloud
I know you’ve heard this before, but seriously don’t do it.
No Google Drive, no Notepad, no screenshots in your gallery.
It’s just asking to get hacked.
Write it down. On paper. Keep it somewhere safe.
Unless someone physically breaks into your house, you’re good.
3. Never connect your main wallet to anything
Your main wallet is your vault. Don’t use it for swaps, don’t connect it to any dApps, even if they’re “trusted.”
Use it only to send/receive funds. That’s it.
Instead, set up a couple of burner wallets:
•One for basic stuff like swapping and moving funds around.
•Another for heavier stuff like testnets, farming, mints, etc.
Label them if it helps. The point is: keep your main wallet clean.
No connections. No approvals. No attack surface.
And if something does go wrong, it won’t touch your main bag.
4. Always disconnect from dApps
This step gets skipped a lot.
Just closing a site doesn’t cut it. You have to manually disconnect.
Go into your wallet settings → connected apps → and remove everything you’re not actively using.
Do this often. It takes 30 seconds.
If you follow these steps, you’ll be way safer. It’s not foolproof, but it puts you way ahead of most people.
Just don’t get lazy. That one moment you’re not paying attention could be the one that costs you.
If this helped you, feel free to like and repost. Stay safe out there. 🙏
@dammiedammie35 The funny thing about next year election people don’t know is… it is still the same APC members that will vote him out… APC members never knew things would be this bad
