This week is my hooding ceremony, and I reflect on the path to get to this point of getting a PhD in Nuclear Physics
I made many applications. See some scholarships I applied for during my time
SINGA award in Singapore
Hong Kong PhD Fellowship
KGSP in Korea
New Zealand and Australia PhD scholarships
All denied
Wrote PRESSID examination, passed, Buhari came and stopped it (Though not shortlisted was expected to be on waitlist)
Did China/Korea via BEA FSB Nigeria; wrote exams, no result
Did ICTP Italy; won scholarship, embassy issues in Nigeria till I missed deadline
Did South Africa; eyed NRF scholarship, almost got a supervisor before switching to focus on USA
I did first cycle of US applications, got rejected in many schools, only got one offer without funding
Did a second cycle of US applications, and that was when I got the offer
Did applications between 2015 and 2018 without giving up. Wrote GRE, then later IELTS to boost my profile during those periods
I know what denials and rejection feel like even with "stellar" qualifications
But I simply did not give up. I was too motivated to allow rejections hold me down or stop me from applying again and again
Don't give up
The structure of criminality Peter Obi talked about is deeper than we think. It goes beyond your typical corrupt politicians or agberos. The mafia was known to have Doctors, professors, police chiefs, priests working for them. So don't be shocked when you see more straw men try to use well crafted words to label this movement. Their goal is to change the conversation. We won't allow them, we'll call out their buffoonery while listing the attrocites of the terrorist party called the APC . #APCisaterroristparty
What is it in Nigerian politics that makes criminals and ex-convicts have glorious career? Look around, allegations of one conviction or the other,
The Nigerian government will soon be a nest of criminals. How do we become a rule of law State if lawless people rule?
Indonesia and Malaysia comprise 74% of global palm oil output.
(yes, they got the palm oil seeds from Nigeria)
In 2021 alone, Indonesia made $28b from Palm Oil exports, and Nigeria made $41b from Crude oil.
Now imagine if Nigeria did not abandon Palm Oil...
Make sure your values align with those you call friends because all this talk about not letting politics define your relationship with people, is garbage. Our lives are shaped by politics and it affects every facet.
Everyone was a motivational speaker, daring their audience to dream and do the impossible, until young people started supporting Labour Party. Now everyone is a "realist" cautioning against electing inexperienced people. We are familiar with their game.
On 25th February 2023, Nigerians trooped out en-masse to participate in what was promised and expected to be a free, fair and transparent Presidential and National Assembly elections. But in all things, we are enjoined to give thanks.

Managing people is harder now because people oversell themselves and their abilities online.
We had someone who worked with us and struggled but was a superstar on Linkedin with a large following. It was easy for this person to get another job but they also quickly saw flaws.
