The goal is not to force huge payouts fast. The goal is slow, steady, repeatable results.

That’s how you keep costs low, protect the accounts, and build real ROI over time. With prop accounts, I’m always looking at one thing: Money in vs. money out.

I typically aim to 10X my spend on these accounts, and the only way I’ve found to do that consistently is by using smaller size, staying patient, and only taking quality setups.

Fast payouts can look good, but they usually come with a much more sporadic profit curve. I’d rather build a clean growth trend that lasts.

Here’s where I ended May with my @Tradeify accounts.

Two of these accounts are approaching a year old and have turned a roughly $500 investment into more than $25,000 in payouts.

It wasn’t done with huge size, gambling, or chasing home runs.

It was done with discipline, patience, risk management, and a repeatable system.

These are my slow-grind accounts. I trade them the same way I trade my personal brokerage account.

Prop firms are an incredible tool. They allow traders to gain leverage and exposure with limited capital. The problem is many people treat them like lottery tickets, which leads to bad habits and blown accounts.

These accounts are now at the point where they’ll likely be moved to live capital after the next payout.

I also wanted to show something important:

You can filter data and only show the winners, or you can show everything.

When I remove the filters and include the losing accounts, the results are still strong because the focus has never been on hitting home runs. The focus has always been on protecting capital and staying in the game.

Slow and steady wins.

Then scale the process across multiple accounts and let consistency do the heavy lifting.

The goal isn’t one big payday.

The goal is getting paid month after month while never risking ruin.

2015 - I’m staring at the blank walls of a rundown rehab in Oklahoma thinking… “How did I get here?”

I left the Air Force with a drinking problem that wasn’t “let’s have fun on Saturday.” It was the “you’ll be dead in a year if you don’t stop” kind. Relationships destroyed. No healthy coping skills. Just the bottle. Got out of that first rehab and tried normal life — retail, car sales — but I still couldn’t stay sober.

2016 - Another rehab, this one in Texas. 90 days. My first real stretch of sobriety.

My wife could’ve left… she stayed. I started climbing wind turbines, worked my way into management, used the GI Bill to finish my degree. Life was finally looking up…

2019- Another brutal bender in West Texas. Blew through a ton of money. Rehab again...

The easiest person to lie to is yourself. I finally got brutally honest: I don’t have this. But the damage was done — we were buried in debt.

2020 - That’s when trading entered the picture. I made my whole paycheck in one hour shorting SPY and Tesla during the shutdown… then lost every single dime of it. Tasted the power, then walked away. Back to the W-2 grind.

2021 - Got some extra cash and bought Tesla calls. They went 400%. I knew I’d blow it without help, so I joined @StockDads actually started learning. (Still thankful for that chapter.)

The next few years were up and down — mostly down. My risk management was trash. Same story as my drinking — I thought I could “handle it.”

2024-@ChefTradesJT his first mastermind. I discovered futures, took the course, and got my first payout in just 2 months. Then a huge job offer came in. Looked like the safer move… until the old debt caught up and we had to file bankruptcy.

2025 -Six-figure bankruptcy in full swing. Debt burying us alive. The ONLY way out I saw was trading.

I bought a couple @MFF core evals and got started getting payouts, scaled into max allocation at @FundedNextFutures using everything I’d learned.
From that summer through October I pulled $160,000 in payouts.

Bankruptcy closed. Debt gone. Took the family on the vacation we’d been dreaming about for years.

At times it seemed impossible, like there was no way out. But I wasn't going to stop trying.

Most people don’t make it out of addiction. I almost didn’t. But I had incredible people who never quit on me — my wife, mentors, the right trading community.

Couldn’t have done it alone.

When I left the military my mindset was “I’ll never make good money.”

Now? Endless opportunity. It takes brutal honesty, real work, and surrounding yourself with the right people…
