I tend to take health for granted even after:
◾ 6 surgeries
◾ 4 broken bones
◾ 2 car accidents
Ouch!
Health is a gift from God.
I'm just over 7 year cancer-free.

I just heard a big tech company is about to divest in one of their product lines.
The big suspect?
Their virtual event platform which was at the core of a substantial capital raise during the pandemic.
Companies relying on virtual events must understand that virtual events are no more.
They are primarily webinars unless very specific use cases, such as:
- Internal meetings
- User conferences
And even there, these tend to be hybrid events with full virtual implementations.
Virtual events, as we've known them during the pandemic, are like The Sopranos or Game Of Thrones. They are over.
Virtual is still relevant. I have fresh research with 250 top event planning companies, and 50% are doing virtual.
But connecting virtually has evolved.
The new rules:
- Short
- Live streaming like
- Connected to in-person
The considerations for platforms are clear.
/ If it looks like Zoom, planners will use Zoom.
/ Experience is key but can't be sold for hundreds of Ks.
/ Social networks have a competitive advantage as they refer audience and give access to data.
I am pretty bullish about the tool mix event professionals have today.
Some eventtech companies, on the other hand, need to pivot quickly instead of burning cash trying to chase markets that don't exist anymore.
You want a powerful outcome from your event.
Ask yourself these 5 questions as you start planning your next one:
-What are we trying to achieve?
-Who do we need to have in the room?
-What will our attendees gain?
-What is our registration goal?
-What will attract sponsors?

Event planners went all-in during the pandemic.
They pivoted. Embraced digital.
Two hopes:
1 - To gain the business back and meet again
2 - To be in a new industry
The pandemic was over.
Events came back in full force.
In-person is now booming.
Let's not fool ourselves, though.
Very little change happened. In most cases, we are still seeing the impact of strict lockdowns.
It's the pendulum swinging.
This energy won't last forever.
Deep change will need to happen to keep the event industry sustainable.
What needs to change, you ask?
- Clear ROI. For everyone.
- Tech deep dive. Without it, we are doomed.
- Sustainability. The biggest threat ahead.
There is more than this.
Let's not forget what we hoped for.
I am happy to report that AI generated summaries still suck.
For simple meetings with little complexity, sure.
As soon as you have more depth, the summaries are worthless.
Here is the problem:
One of the biggest applications of live transcription is at events.
Get Ai to listen to a talk, sum it up for attendees to digest.
What if the summary is inaccurate? That was the case at a recent live event experience.
Of course it is getting better, but we are probably not ready for it. Yet.
