I think this type of analysis - emphasizing 2024 - misses something important: what happened in 2025. Dem leadership decided to wait for thermostatic public opinion to change. Left much of the party fearful, angry, and leaderless in a moment when leadership was wanted. AOC led.
What I find odd about this discourse is that Bernie Sanders and AOC were the last big supporters of Joe Biden staying in the race. For those who think that was a terrible idea, how has this been memory holed? Itโs the establishment that pushed him out. Does the left think Biden should have stayed in?
@SeanTrende@politicalmath This is a poor, hurried take. Bret deals with the studies in the next tweets. In general, he goes out of his way to explore other arguments (like his lengthy posts on hoplites at his blog). In this he offers a much more likely cause for mass infant burial.
@DavidLarter The thing is, AH had mobilized for war against Serbia twice before (re Albania) and been talked out of war by the Germans. In July 1914, the Hungarians did not want war. The Germans could have applied pressure to stop the war. instead, they did the reverse, pressuring for war
@IsaacDovere Data point to the contrary: George Latimer is running almost entirely on AIPAC funds and his ads overwhelmingly embrace Biden and accuse Bowman of insufficient support for Joe.
@RajaKorman Kapp Putsch? Half-private military orgs mutiny to prevent dissolution, prosper momentarily because the army wonโt shoot, but discover they arenโt strong enough to control the state
