WAL on s3 is so absurdly simple that you really don’t need to use systems like Kafka or other log services

With S3 + CAS, you can get a simple WAL implementation. You may need to introduce a service between the client and s3 to aggregate multiple writes to get better batching to S3 but that is straightforward as well.

S3 is easily the most amazing distributed system ever built
- Infinite scale
- Strong consistency
- High availability
- Low cost
