@UbermenschMind I didn’t have to cripple myself to be a father, but there is a lot of sacrifice of personal time and existence. I don’t blame anyone: parental sacrifice for children is an equilibrium strategy and I adopt it voluntarily, like most parents, I think
@DonMiami3 It’s surprising there are as many high-quality products and services as there are
But maybe these jobs are just really boring and they struggle to hire and motivate
@er4seursocial An ordinary question anyone could have. It’s hard to get information about private life, and contemporary public culture doesn’t encourage simple intimacy or affection
Jury trials are the modern equivalent of tossing chicken bones. Not a sound rational procedure at all, but (a) does yield a decision, (b) isn’t completely controlled by the oligarchy, and (c) has enough religious backing for the populace to accept it
@ChristianHeiens I’m sure that jury trials have always been a black hole of bias and ignorance, as there’s no tracking or enforcement. The only reason the courts can function at all is that most cases are resolved without a trial
@suchnerve I suspect it’s always been like that, though
For me, the only really depressing thing about being well-informed is how hard it gets to relate to the more poorly informed 98% of the population
