Reflexive AI use @Shopify means tons of experimenting. Everyone’s a builder now. But how do you share all that work with your team?
Last year, we built a hosting platform on a single VM. Usage exploded:
50,000+ sites so far.
Meet Quick, our hosting tool:
Quick is for sure one of the most revolutionary tools inside of our tool belt at @Shopify. People with little tech background are delivering powerful tools across all areas. Presentations, dashboards, crazy fun tools. All of this leveraging on LLMs to generate code. 💚
Everyone's talking about AI-generated HTML.
But have you tried giving your sites a zero-config API for saving data, file storage, AI, websockets, etc?
We did this at Shopify. Runs on a single VM that costs $200/month, and it's changed the way we work.
We call it Quick 👇🧵

Hotwire Native makes it easier to build hybrid apps with Rails. But native features like menus, barcode scanners, and push often require custom Swift or Kotlin.
I’ve created a library of reusable bridge components to help. Native menus, document scanners, push notifications…
#Ruby

@Shopify it’s a pleasure to have you with us for another year, and we hope this partnership continues for many more to come! 🚀🌴
PT-BR:
@tropicalonrails@fxn Thanks @cirdesh for putting all those amazing speakers all together in a very tropical conference (we still miss the beach though)
@DenisJeliazkov@asallen@notboring That reminded me the first iPhone apps that were full of creativity and fun while doing boring things. One example is weightbot app that went from this to a boring interface
@ryanflorence I always admired the way professional skateboarders deal with failures. A friend of mine that is a pro mentioned that they train to avoid accidents.
Doing this in 2021 took a lot of courage from both @dhh and @jasonfried. I remember all the push back and defamatory words. I remember when David was excluded from Rails conf keynote because of his stance. I also remember they believed that this wave would fade away and it did.
The call for DEI trainers to come search for hidden racism at our company was key to what prompted the ENOUGH WITH THIS NONSENSE response in 2021. We should have taken the stand earlier, but glad we did it before it came to this insanity.
