I hate being a junior right now.

Leadership keeps pushing us to use AI so we can ship faster.

At the same time, my manager and architect expect me to deeply understand codebases written in languages I've barely touched.

When I joined, we were put on an internal drag-and-drop platform that generated most of the code behind the scenes. So my exposure to real software engineering was limited.

I did some Go, but never deeply. In college, I worked with Python and C++.

I've never written production Java or Stencil/TypeScript.

Now we're rewriting a years-old feature written using internal platform in Java, with a Stencil/TS frontend.

And this isn't some small feature.

A 6-person team was split into two 3-person teams to tackle it.

The hardest part?

Every code review makes me feel like I'm behind.

AI generates code quickly, but when that code turns into spaghetti, I'm the one who has to understand it, defend it, debug it, and maintain it.

Testing isn't much better.

Even tiny changes can require deploying the Java library to dev/test environments, while Jenkins builds can take ~an hour.

I'm burning out.

I work till 9:00pm and I have sacrificed many weekends.

And the frustrating part is that I'm losing the time and mental energy to work on the things I actually care about:

Rust.
Blockchain.
My Terminology Extraction Engine.

I know being uncomfortable is part of growing as an engineer.

But I also don't want to spend the next year surviving instead of actually learning.

I memang akan advise my students, kalau boleh jangan ambil mystep/protege what so ever. Banyak dah dapat feedback tak best from previous students.

Patutnya after grad dah boleh terus kerja as engineer dengan gaji rm2.8k-3k. Habis program ni, apply company lain dorang offer just a bit higher je dari ‘elaun’ mystep/protege tu. Nak naik lambat giler.

So today I fell victim to a scam via @Airbnb_my. Kinda caught me off-guard cause I thought @Airbnb's were safe. Posting this solely because I wanted to share my experience. Hope everyone stays wary and learn from my mistakes, and be careful who to trust.
