Corruption erodes trust in tax systems, weakening compliance when people see no return.
@UNODC helps countries address gaps and build fairer tax systems that mobilize resources for those who need them.

STRENGTHENING REGIONAL ACTION AGAINST ILLICIT FINANCIAL FLOWS
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), in partnership with the UNODC Anti-Corruption Hub for Africa and the East African Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (EAAACA), is hosting a high-level regional workshop bringing together investigators, prosecutors, Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs), regulators, and private-sector representatives from across Eastern and Southern Africa.
The event was officially opened by EACC CEO, Mr. Abdi Mohamud, who reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to promoting financial integrity, regional collaboration, and reforms aligned with global anti-corruption and AML standards.
Participants will jointly develop regional indicators to track progress in asset recovery and financial integrity reforms to be presented for endorsement at the upcoming EAAACA Assembly.
With contributions from Ethiopia, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Kenya, and other regional and private-sector experts, the workshop underscores the importance of collective action and cross-border cooperation in combating illicit financial flows.
This initiative strengthens Africa’s collective commitment to financial integrity and positions Kenya as a regional leader in implementing UNCAC and Financial Action Task Force (FATF) standards on asset recovery.
Today, Hon. Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, Winfridah B Mokaya, CBS, hosted high-level government delegations from Sierra Leone, South Sudan and Somalia, together with senior officials from @EACCKenya and representatives of @UNODC.
In her remarks, the Chief Registrar underscored that the Judiciary has undertaken deliberate and strategic measures to ensure that Honourable Judges, Judicial Officers, and staff are bound by a policy of zero tolerance to corruption.
She noted that Court Integrity Committees have been established in every court, complemented by daily integrity briefings at court level—affirming a strict stance against facilitation fees.
Hon. Mokaya emphasized that “even a single act of corruption is one too many in an institution entrusted with the solemn duty of administering justice.”
She further highlighted strategic measures undertaken by the Judiciary and the wider justice sector, including:
• The Anti-Corruption Strategic Guiding Framework for the Justice Sector (2025): outlining 76 short-, medium-, and long-term programs targeting systemic and cross-agency reforms, with dual emphasis on prevention and enforcement.
• The role of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC): in upholding accountability and independence in judicial appointments, training, and discipline. By fulfilling this mandate, the JSC guarantees that integrity, merit, and constitutional fidelity remain the cornerstone of Kenya’s Judiciary.
