For the first time, numbers can be put on how far #atoms and #molecules deviate from perfect symmetry in practice. Using a new tool, researchers can now determine systematically when small distortions are insignificant – and when they change how a material acts.

Danish invention makes counterfeits impossible: 'It's a game changer'
With tiny grains of sand in unique patterns, everything from kiwi fruits and over-the-counter medicines to 24 carat gold jewellery can be protected from counterfeits.
Next year, your Christmas presents will have a little bit of particles on them. A random pattern of small, fine grains that reveal whether the product is real – or whether it’s a cheap and uncertain copy.
At least that's Thomas Just Sørensen's New Year's resolution.
He is behind a cutting-edge technology that can give everything from designer bags and toys to medicine and kiwifruits a unique stamp consisting of a random pattern of small particles.
“It is completely impossible to copy,” says Thomas Just Sørensen, professor of chemistry at the University of Copenhagen.
- It's a game changer. It's like biometrics and fingerprints, just for things.
The cover of @InorgChem this week accompanies the report presenting the electronic structure of the D3 symmetric neodymium(III) complex: Nd(ODA3). Read it here: https://t.co/AY5OkTfpJZ
Excited to see my work on the cover of @InorgChem!
On it You will find the crystal field splitting of neodymium(III) from luminescence and computations.
It is all displayed on ChatGPT's take on computational crystal fields, which is slightly different to our approach.
We are looking for a PDRA to join our team at the Centre for Radiochemistry Research @UoMChemistry on a @RollsRoyce funded collaborative industrial project. Please RT, and if you meet the person spec in the advert below and are interested please email me. https://t.co/LSDPEbec9G
Thrilled to share that our recent work on the electronic structure of neodymium(III) is now out in Inorganic Chemistry!
Thanks to @BGuennic and @ Maxime Grasser for the amazing collaboration!

I told Shady Vance that I was very angry that he had made Jeffrey Epstein trend again on X. He asked me why. I said, "Buckle Up, Buttercup (*his Drag Name) and I'll give you THIRTY-TWO reasons why!"🧵
I am extremely happy to see my work on the evaluation of symmetry in coordination complexes out @JPhysChem: https://t.co/4cNbt3uMZV.
The program can be found here: https://t.co/XQ9wjumjJM
I would like to give a huge thanks to @BGuennic and @f_elements for making this possible.

#dkpol#forskpol
@f_elements 🤩 Who can miss this gathering of Plenary Speakers at on single conference? SHIFT MUST GO ON! TENERIFE, CANARY ISLANDS, 13-17 October 2025. Stay tuned at https://t.co/2C9NWgoezi
