At some point football needs to normalize calling Modrić the third best player of this generation because nobody deserves that label more.
The longevity, the level for club and country, the trophies, what he achieved with Croatia… genuinely, who even has a stronger case?
HERE WE GO!
If you ever take the Bernabéu museum tour, there’s a room with a miniature version of the entire Real Madrid city. The tour guide asks, “Do you know who laid the first brick for this?”
Dani Carvajal leaves the club as the emblem of what La Fábrica graduates can do—going through the entire youth academy and winning six UCL titles, including a threepeat, an assist in a final, and a goal in a final.
What Carvajal didn’t do as captain isn’t important today. I’d rather remember him as the best right back in club history. I’d rather remember him as the guy who kept coming back to give his all for Real Madrid. Not even troubles with his heart or an ACL could stop him from returning.
Gracias, Dani.
Hard to know where to start with Carvajal. There's so much to unpack. He's the greatest right-back in Real Madrid history, and came along at a time where we desperately needed a world class right-back. A big game player with reliable two-way production. One goal and assist in Champions League Finals -- both crucial. His insane golazo to win the European Super Cup vs Sevilla. Had a ton of iconic assists. Will always remember his performances putting Luis Diaz and Frank Ribery in his pocket; and his entire 2024 run where he went to another level. The void that Salgado left was huge. We had been waiting for someone like Carvajal for a long time. 6 UCLs, and the best RB in UCL history as well. Death to gluten.
No sé muy bien cuál era el sentido de esta comparecencia de Florentino Pérez, pero viéndola es bastante más fácil entender qué está pasando últimamente en el Real Madrid.
🚨🎙️| Thierry Henry on how Real Madrid’s problems started was due to that Vini Jr.’s reaction to being subbed off in El Clásico as the TURNING POINT in the club’s internal atmosphere:
🗣️ “Everyone will blame tactics. Some will blame injuries. Others will say Barça simply found another level. But if you actually watched Real Madrid closely this season, you know exactly when the collapse started. It started the moment one player decided his ego was more important than the manager’s authority.
Madrid were flying. Seven points clear of Barça, second in the Champions League, Mbappé looked locked in, the dressing room was together, they’d won 13 out of 14 games and Xabi Alonso finally had the team playing with structure, discipline and intensity.
Then came El Clásico.
Madrid are winning 2-1, Xabi makes a tactical decision, takes Vinicius Jr. off… and instead of reacting like an elite professional, he reacts like someone whose ego got bruised in front of the cameras. That moment changed EVERYTHING internally. You could literally feel the atmosphere shift around the club after that.
Top players don’t always like being subbed, but the smartest ones understand the bigger picture. Vinicius didn’t. That’s the difference. Cristiano Ronaldo hated coming off, but he still understood the manager’s authority. Vinicius made it about Vinicius. And once a dressing room starts questioning whether the manager is actually in charge, it’s over.
Vinicius never had the tactical IQ Xabi Alonso was demanding, from his wide players. Xabi wants control, discipline, positional awareness, pressing triggers… Vinicius plays on emotion and chaos. Brilliant in moments, yes, but when the game requires sacrifice and structure, he struggles with it. That’s why the relationship cracked.
And Florentino Perez made it even worse. Instead of backing the manager who had Madrid dominating for months, he panicked. Absolute impatience. Bringing in Álvaro Arbeloa into that environment was madness. Managing Real Madrid isn’t a youth academy experiment. The role swallowed him whole because it was too big, too political, too demanding.
Madrid didn’t lose the title because Barça were unstoppable. They lost it because the club lost control internally. One emotional reaction from Vinicius exposed fractures that Xabi Alonso was trying to keep hidden. From that moment onward, the project started eating itself alive.
That’s the brutal truth Madrid fans don’t want to admit.”
Fighting with your teammate is one of the absolute worst things you could do in professional sports. As outrageously bad as it is, Real Madrid has a surprisingly good opportunity to create an example that can shape the future of the club in the medium/long term.
"I don't know what they put in that jersey... maybe if I put it on it might help me to get my hair back." 😭
Titi knows the Real Madrid jersey has some magic 🪄
Need to sit back and take in that Valverde performance. As a natural box-to-box midfielder,it’s crazy that he produced 3 world class striker goals in a big Champions League match. It’s a unique achievement that midfield greats haven’t even done. Technique, athleticism, mentality.
