@flyjordanrichly @nolozyyy@ghostinthishell@TheGreeneBJ The US is obviously the big guy on the block in terms of imperialism but there’s existing historical imperial powers which still cling to the vestiges of that power and use it to oppress people, and there’s rising powers who would love to exert the imperial force the US does
@flyjordanrichly @nolozyyy@ghostinthishell@TheGreeneBJ military bases around the world. China, to a significantly less extent, is attempting to expand its national territory and also maintains some foreign military bases in Asia and africa.
The algorithm on this website is so cooked. Somehow decided that what I want to see in my timeline are Spanish language tweets and Japanese people being racist towards immigrants?
@brainiac_man@giovanimolano@SweetyPolinaXO@anietotylkoja Up until like 5 years ago a significant portion of the city’s sewage had pumped into trucks and driven out of the city because they didn’t build out their sewer infrastructure to keep pace with the rest of development
@nocturne84@ItsAstronomics@Gritty20202 1. There are no nukes in Ukraine.
2. The actual real thing that happened in history was the Cuban missile crisis, and the US embargo of Cuba is also evil and unjustified, what’s your point?
Plastering every dem surrogate on the airwaves saying “why does trump want to know about what’s in your kids pants, that’s weird” would just completely dynamite whatever ‘killer’ ad the republicans could ever run
The worst part about this is they had an effective way to shut this all down before just abandoning it. The whole “they’re weird for talking about it” thing aligns so well with public opinion: for better or worse the average sentiment on trans issues is “I don’t care”.
if kamala loses, the party will move right — not because of thinking that "left can't be relied on" — but rather because democratic strategists agree with republican policy here. I think you kind-of have to if you genuinely believe that "Kamala is for they/them" is a good ad
The whole east palestine derailment showed the exact ways we fuck this up: devolution of infrastructure and remediation to capital, panicked social media coverage, and half assed environmental protection leads to no one knowing what’s going on.
but we keep doing it
I’m not saying the fears about the Georgia fire are unfounded, but almost every post I see somehow manages to claim it’s releasing massive amounts of a different chemical, each completely chemically unrelated to the next.
Also the way every reference to chlorine is spontaneously followed by a mention “they used it as a weapon in ww1” really mimics bot posting and slaps a level of panic onto every post
This is the true AI doomerism. Not the stuff about a rogue AI enslaving humanity, but rather using AI as an ideological tool to justify the capitalist nihilism of maximum extraction by claiming its the only solution for planetary collapse.
@AriDavidPaul@ssteingraber1 Agencies like NOAA and state level water commissions as well as NGOs like UNICEF and Water Project literally publish free lesson plans target towards K-8 students on this topic. The idea that they don’t teach this as a key part of the water cycle to literal children is just wrong
@AriDavidPaul@ssteingraber1 I think middle schoolers can understand basic concepts like “drought” and “sometimes it rains in the desert but it’s still a desert”.
In fact I know they can because two decades ago they were teaching concepts like this in my middle school science class.
@UncleScottiepoo@metzgov But surely the point of an election is to try to get people not on the team to be on the team, right? Michigan is a swing state and I’d hope the dems were trying to get every possible vote there.
