Saudi Arabia is a longstanding strategic ally of the US, and that partnership will continue because it serves the interests of both states.
In most respects, the Kingdom has proven to be a far more reliable partner to the US than other actors in the region, most notably Israel.
However, allies are not vassals, and Riyadh does not formulate policy on the basis of pressure or political ultimatums.
The Kingdom engages with Washington, Beijing, Moscow, Brussels, and others, from a position of national (and regional) interest. Its security and economy is not contingent upon normalisation with Israel.
Saudi Arabia is a G20 economy, the world’s leading energy power, and a nation with immense political and religious influence across the Arab and Islamic worlds.
Normalisation is ultimately contingent upon a credible and irreversible pathway towards Palestinian statehood, while also serving the wider interests of regional stability and security, and not because the Kingdom “owes” it to anyone.
