So China's top diplomat Wang Yi has cancelled his visit to Mogadishu because Somali Govt couldn't assure his security. He would have no such problems in Hargeisa! Again, Mogadishu regime should first fix Somalia before obsessing over Somaliland!

In Hargeisa, @WHOSom's Deputy Representative Dr. Kamil Mohamed, members from @SomalilandMoHD , and other partners came together to recognize the courage of health workers and advocate for their protection. #ActForHumanity.
🚨 #GenderAlert | #JusticeForFahimaAndFarah
On 13 June 2025, in the town of Lascanood, near the disputed border between Somalia and Somaliland, two sisters - Fahima (16) and Farah Mohamoud (17) were brutally beaten and gang-raped by 25 men. Today, they remain in critical condition as their lives, futures, and dignity are in balance.
21 suspects have been arrested. 4 remain at large. After a short statement from the Mayor, silence fell. This silence is not just inaction — it is a betrayal because when those in power choose silence, they side with the perpetrators and deepen the harm done to survivors.
In Somalia, thousands of women and girls face rape, forced marriage, abuse, and impunity every year. The vast majority never see justice. Over 60% of cases are “settled” outside the formal legal system, denying survivors any form of redress, dignity, or protection.
The cases of Fahima and Farah must break this silence.
SIHA Network calls on the Government of Somalia and Lascanood authorities to:
🔹 Launch an immediate, survivor-centered investigation free from political interference
🔹 Ensure access to trauma care, legal aid, and safe shelter for the survivors
🔹 Enforce national and international protections; ratify CEDAW and the Maputo Protocol
🔹 Renew and implement the Women, Peace & Security Action Plan (2025–2027)
We further urge:
🟣 Women-led grassroots organizations and civil society to unite, raise awareness, and build a powerful network to fight sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in Somalia
🌍 The international community to invest in and support women-led initiatives working on the frontlines
There can be no peace, no progress, and no justice in Somalia if women and girls live in fear of such abuse!
📖 Read, share, and actively advocate for the recommendations outlined in the full #GenderAlert to ensure that the call for #JusticeForFahimaAndFarah echoes across every platform, every institution, and every community in Somalia and beyond: https://t.co/fVQEPT1OyV

🌍 Empowering women for climate justice is pivotal for sustainable development. I had the privilege of participating in an insightful event where we discussed the profound impact of climate change on health in the Horn of Africa.

Selected for inspiration and leadership, enhancing the working lives of women, and editorial excellence, I am honoured to been named amongst 16 incredible women from around the world as 'Inspiring Women in News 2024' at the BBC.
Thank you to my colleagues who nominated me.
“Recognition of Somaliland would be a most cost-effective means to ensure security in an otherwise troubled and problematic region.”
