Because totalitarianism, by definition, is when people have basically no power while the government (or in this case, a federation like the EU) owns it all.

The EU passed Chat Control, a law that allows companies (and potentially every EU government) to scan all your messages.

The craziest and most totalitarian part is that it passed with only a minority of votes in favor.

The majority of those who voted rejected the law. It passed anyway.

Why? Because most members of parliament were not in their seats due to summer holidays.

This vote had happened multiple times before and had been rejected each time. But it passed this time. Because they chose the perfect moment, when Parliament was not at work. And no vote equals agreement. They changed this rule just before the re-proposal of Chat Control.

This is why "totalitarianism" is the right term to describe the EU right now.

ANO zatím nevidí problém v prodloužení dočasné výjimky známé jako Chat Control 1, která dává platformám právo plošně skenovat a vyhledávat obsah se sexuálním zneužíváním dětí.
Skutečný spor podle Karla Havlíčka přijde až ve chvíli, kdy se bude rozhodovat o trvalé podobě evropské legislativy, označované jako Chat Control 2. ČR bude o prodloužení současné výjimky hlasovat v Radě EU velmi pravděpodobně ještě jednou.
„Takže ano, nechť se ta výjimka ještě krátkodobě prodlouží... V tuto chvíli musíme jako vláda diskutovat i na koaliční radě, jak se postavíme k budoucímu návrhu takzvaného trvalého řešení. K tomu jsme se zatím vůbec nevyjadřovali.“

Vláda zatím nezaujala stanovisko k trvalé evropské úpravě, která je mezi kritiky označována jako Chat Control 2 a která má uložit platformám povinnost plošně skenovat obsah včetně šifrované komunikace.
