the "I found out I have ADHD and now think I'm broken" to "maybe being neurodivergent means I'm smarter than everyone else" to "we need to address how structural ableism and other forms of oppression shape our conceptions of pathology, intelligence and success" pipeline
It’s so funny to me that ‘easily distracted’ and ‘difficulties sustaining attention’ are ADHD traits and we also experience ‘hyperfocus’. Gotta love how multifaceted we are
When oppressed minorities go from being invisible, and actively oppressed to being more visible, society shifts its narrative to keep oppressing them. ADHD becoming "trendy" isn't the fault of people who raise awareness, but of those who twist the narrative to keep being ableist.
9 of 10 times, if I haven’t responded to your text it’s because I read it in the middle of doing something else or wanted to respond thoughtfully then got distracted and now too much time has passed & I’m ashamed. Text again. If I don’t respond that time, I don’t like you. 😩😩
When someone is telling you they figured out they’re neurodivergent, they have put infinitely more time into thinking about it than you have. They are sure. You just fucking heard of the idea of them being neurodivergent and you want to tell them you know better? You don’t.
