The screenshots below were taken from publicly available posts shared by Manipur Naga social media users and pages, showing volunteer training activities, firearms instruction, field exercises, defensive position construction and weapons handling. Notably, the training was not limited to men; several posts also featured women participating in such activities. Rather than being concealed, these activities were openly circulated and celebrated online, raising serious questions about the growing normalization of militarized training among Manipur Naga civilians.
Such developments are deeply concerning because prolonged conflict can create an environment in which militant narratives, armed mobilization, and ethnonationalist ideologies become increasingly normalized. When civilians including women and youth are encouraged to view military-style training as a source of pride and identity, the line between civilian society and armed conflict becomes dangerously blurred. The widespread promotion of these activities on social media suggests a level of radicalization and militarization that deserves closer scrutiny.
These concerns are heightened by the events of this morning at Loibol Khullen village in Kangpokpi District, where local reports indicate that NSCN-IM and its proxy ZUF (K), along with trained volunteers, carried out an attack that left three Kuki-Zo civilians dead: Mr. Letkhongam Haokip, Secretary of KBC Gambih No. 7 Church; Mrs. Tinmary Haokip, a member of the KBC Gambih No. 7 Women Work Committee; and Mr. Jangminlal Haokip. Seven houses were also reportedly burnt down during the attack. While no individual appearing in the training images can be linked to the attack without evidence, the public glorification of armed civilian training and militant mobilization makes the killing of innocent civilians including a Kuki woman all the more alarming. The growing acceptance of such narratives and activities should be a matter of serious concern for anyone seeking to understand the trajectory of conflict in Manipur.

At least five houses were reportedly damaged in a fire at Kharam Vaiphei village in Manipur's Kangpokpi district on Friday afternoon, triggering demands for an investigation into the incident.
According to local sources, the fire broke out at around 2:15 pm in the village near the Leimakhong area. Reports from the area alleged that unidentified armed persons were involved and that several houses were set ablaze.
No casualties were immediately reported.
The incident occurred on a day when Kuki-Zo organisations were holding rallies across Manipur, including in Kangpokpi, demanding justice for three slain church leaders and the release of 14 individuals reportedly being held hostage.
Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) condemned the incident and called on authorities to conduct a fair investigation, identify those responsible and take appropriate action. The organisation also urged measures to prevent further escalation and ensure the safety of civilians.
The Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO), South West Sadar Hills Block, also expressed concern and called for stronger security measures in the area.
Officials had not issued a detailed statement on the incident till late Saturday evening.

The Kuki people have already endured immense suffering, displacement, and loss. Instead of receiving justice and protection, they are repeatedly made to bear the burden of administrative failures and biased actions.
We strongly condemn this incident .

Kharam Vaiphei Village Burnt Down, Kuki Groups Allege Attack by Tangkhul Refugee, Meitei Refugee Militants, Cite Security Lapse
Kangpokpi, May 30, 2026
Kharam Vaiphei, a Kuki village in Kangpokpi district, was allegedly torched Friday, forcing Kuki civilians, including women, children, and elderly residents, to flee under gunfire as homes and ancestral properties were reduced to ashes. The Kuki Community alleged the attack was carried out by the Tangkhul refugee NSCN-IM, ZUF Kamson group, and the Meitei refugee Arambai Tenggol, and Myanmar-based Meitei militants. It further claimed Central Forces and Manipur Police failed to protect Kuki civilians during the incident, leaving villagers helpless as armed groups operated openly.
Serious allegations were also raised against the Superintendent of Police, Kangpokpi district, for allegedly allowing armed groups to operate freely during the attack. The Kuki Community said if proven true, it would amount to a “betrayal of constitutional duty” and erode public trust in security institutions. The group described the incident as part of continued targeting of Kuki ancestral villages, with families displaced and terrorized amid what it called “political silence and selective action.”
The Kuki Community demanded immediate action against NSCN-IM, ZUF Kamson group, Arambai Tenggol, Myanmar-based Meitei militants, and all individuals involved in the burning of Kharam Vaiphei. It also sought an independent investigation into officials accused of negligence and urged the Government of India to intervene to prevent further destruction. “Enough of the suffering. Enough of the silence,” the statement said, calling for urgent measures before more villages are attacked.

Who Was Controlling the Ground? Serious Questions Arise After the Burning of Kharam Vaiphei Village
The burning of Kharam Vaiphei, a Kuki village, is a deeply disturbing incident that has raised serious concerns among the people who have witnessed the footage.
In the video, central security personnel can reportedly be seen present in the area while armed members alleged to be from the ZUF-Kamson faction entered the village. Shortly thereafter, the village was set ablaze. The footage has left many citizens asking difficult questions that deserve clear and transparent answers.
Why were the security forces present at the scene unable to prevent the destruction of the village? Why did they appear to move away while the attackers advanced? Were there operational reasons behind their actions, or was there a failure in command and response? Most importantly, who was truly controlling the situation on the ground while innocent civilians and their homes were being placed at risk?
The people of Kharam Vaiphei deserve answers. The victims who have lost their homes, properties, and sense of security deserve justice. Silence and inaction will only deepen public mistrust and suffering.
We therefore urge the Government of India, the Government of Manipur, and the concerned security authorities to conduct an immediate, independent, and transparent investigation into the incident. Every individual or group responsible for the destruction of the village must be identified and held accountable under the law.
If the footage accurately reflects what occurred, then the authorities must explain why the village was not protected despite the presence of security forces. The public has a right to know what orders were given, what actions were taken, and whether there was any negligence or failure to protect civilians.
The burning of a civilian village should never be tolerated in a democratic nation. Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done. The truth behind what happened in Kharam Vaiphei must come out, and the victims must receive protection, rehabilitation, and justice.

Tangkhul policeman seen firing at civilians
This is exactly why Kukis continue demanding Separate Administration and a Separate State, because people cannot trust a system where even those meant to protect civilians are seen pointing guns at them. @adgpi@PMOIndia@AmitShah..

Sangkai Kuki Village, Manipur, 29 May 2026: – Outrage has erupted over an alleged incident in Sangkai Kuki village where “Tangkhul Manipur police” reportedly opened fire on unarmed civilians.
The statement claims innocent villagers were “terrorized and shot at without provocation” during the incident. It condemns what it calls “state-sponsored violence and brutality against innocent people.”
Police are mandated to protect all innocent civilians — whether Kuki, Meitei, or Tangkhul — without bias. Firing on unarmed villagers betrays that fundamental duty and erodes public trust in law enforcement. When those sworn to uphold the law are accused of targeting the people they should safeguard, it demands immediate accountability, impartial investigation, and justice for victims.
Targeting civilians is unacceptable under any circumstances. The role of police is to maintain peace and protect lives across all communities, not to endanger them. Such alleged actions must be condemned, and those responsible must face due process.
