when code was expensive to write, the act of writing it forced you to have confront your assumptions beforehand.
now it’s easy to go from a vague idea to implementation without ever developing a clear opinion. but the cost of that is (1)premature commitment to an idea you haven't evaluated (2) the false sense of confidence created by working code.
some of the friction we removed was doing useful cognitive work.
@OrevaZSN Moravec's paradox:
the discovery that high-level abstract reasoning is easy for computers, while basic sensorimotor and perceptual skills are extremely difficult
why aren’t the robots working in the mines and oil fields and handling toxic chemicals or picking plastic out of the ocean? why are they writing emails and making powerpoint presentations? what the hell are we doing
A pattern I see in successful Muslims:
They're all delusional in what they think Allah can do for them. Not entitled. Just irrationally optimistic about what du'a can unlock. While everyone else is listing why it won't work, they already placed their trust in Him and started. Half the time it doesn't work. But the other half changes their life. Rational minds don't witness irrational barakah.
The life you live and complain about is the life someone is praying to live.
The job you hate is someone’s dream job.
The food you waste, could feed the homeless.
The health you take for granted, is the wish of one on their deathbed.
Alhamdullilah.
Long ago, people said: “Angels? Never seen one. An invisible world? Prove it. A book recording my life? Impossible.”
Today:
AI. A mind without a body, obeying every command. Like the angels who “do not disobey what they are commanded.”
WiFi. An invisible world flowing through every room. Like the unseen.
Your phone. Every word saved, nothing forgotten. Like the Book of Deeds.
“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic,” said Arthur C. Clarke.
What the past called magic, we call Monday morning.
One day the Book opens. Paradise or Fire.
It has never been easier to believe.
He is humble toward those above him, and does not demean those beneath him.
He holds firmly to virtue, treats people according to their own disposition, and keeps his inner faith between himself and his Lord, Mighty and Majestic.
He therefore walks through life with piety and discretion."
[لاذكياء لابن الجوزي]
Hasan al-Basri رحمه الله :
"Beware of entering upon a day having tomorrow or other future days as your main concern and worry. (If you do so) you will increase in anxiety and difficulty."
[Al-Hilyah 2/139]
Quran 1400 years ago (and no one else ever) about one of the pharaohs who claimed they are god (and not about any other group of people):
فَمَا بَكَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّمَاءُ وَالْأَرْضُ وَمَا كَانُوا مُنظَرِينَ
{Neither heaven nor earth wept over them, nor was their fate delayed}
Quran 44:29
1200 years later, humans decipher the 2000 years old dead language .. and we discover that this is what ancient Egyptians used to say about their dead pharaohs around 3000 years ago :

Ibn al-Jawzi said:
I swear by Allah, if a thinking believer were to recite
-surah al-Hadeed,
-the end of surah al-Hashr,
-Ayah al-Kursi, and
-surah al-Ikhlas
with reflection and contemplation, his heart would surely crack open out of fear of Allah
Working out is therapeutic. To me, it’s honestly not about the ‘musclemaxxing’ or whatever name they’re ascribing to it. It’s simply more about fighting depression, anxiety, complacency and any other weak feeling that’s always brewing within you. The gym doesn’t just make you strong physically, your emotional side gets stronger through everyday training. And if you can’t go to the gym, calisthenics should be your everyday duty. And this habit spreads and extend to other areas of your life. Confidence is a state of mind and being. And it requires daily show-ups.
You’re a man. And being a man isn’t all rosy and fun. It’s warfare. It’s either you fight for yourself or you get lost into oblivion. The choice is yours.
