I performed an EGD on a patient and noted a possibly mesenteroaxial orientation of the stomach based on both the endoscopic findings and the way the scope behaved during the procedure. Navigating past the pylorus was particularly challenging. There’s something especially satisfying about challenging endoscopies.
It felt like performing a sliding maneuver in a sigmoid colon while the scope is looping.
Has anyone had experience with this? Other than suctioning the stomach, what else can be done? #GI #GIX
During surgery, the anesthesiologist noticed a missing tooth while intubating a patient with very poor dentition and multiple missing teeth. An X-ray revealed a small radiopaque object near the T1 level, but it was unclear whether the tooth was in the lung or esophagus. We were called in for an EGD in the OR, and sure enough, we found the tooth in the mid-esophagus. Using a Roth net, we safely retrieved it. I love GI.
