Ramadhan 1447 (Day 27)
The Night Most Hoped to Be Laylat Al-Qadr
This is the view held by the majority of scholars, and it is considered the strongest and most well-known opinion. The evidence includes the following hadiths:
1️⃣ The Prophet ﷺ said:
((من كان متحريها فليتحرها ليلة سبع وعشرين))
“If someone is searching for it, let him look for it on the twenty-seventh night.” [Sahih al-Jami‘, no. 2920]
2️⃣ Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) reported that a man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: “O Messenger of Allah, I am an old and weak man, and standing in prayer at night is difficult for me. Tell me a night in which Allah may allow me to reach Laylat Al-Qadr.” The Prophet ﷺ said:
((عليك بالسابعة))
“Focus on the seventh night (meaning the 27th).” [Authenticated by Ibn Rajab in Lata’if Al-Ma‘arif and by Al-Arna’ut in his checking of Musnad Ahmad]
3️⃣ Mu‘awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
((ليلة القدر ليلة سبع وعشرين))
“Laylat Al-Qadr is the twenty-seventh night.” [Sahih Abi Dawud, no. 1386]
4️⃣ Ubayy ibn Ka‘b (may Allah be pleased with him) was certain—he even swore—that it was the 27th night. When he was asked how he knew this, he said: “By the sign the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told us: the sun rises the next morning without strong rays.” [Reported by Muslim, no. 762]
5️⃣ The Prophet ﷺ led the companions in night prayer during some nights until one-third of the night had passed, and on some nights until half the night. But on the 27th night, he led them in prayer until morning. [Authenticated by al-Albani in As-Silsilah 7/101]
6️⃣ On the 27th night, the Prophet ﷺ gathered his family and wives (unlike the 23rd and 25th nights) and prayed with them until they feared they might miss the pre-dawn meal (suhoor).
[Sahih Ibn Majah, no. 1100]
📝 The 27th night begins at sunset of the 26th day of Ramadan.
We ask Allah to allow us and all Muslims to reach it and to be among those who stand in prayer during it with faith and sincere hope for reward.
