Amidst all the critiques from @albd1971 and supporters about post-August 5 violence, a critical point needs to be acknowledged. In the pre-August 5 period in #Bangladesh, pro-regime elements (to include the student and youth leagues) carried out violence at the behest of the government and with the active support of the security forces. At the same time, the security forces themselves were deployed against those who opposed the regime. Moreover, there was a "shadow war" conducted by the intelligence agencies against individuals deemed threats to the regime. All the above took place at the direction of Sheikh Hasina and her inner circle.

The conflict dynamics post-August 5 are very different. The interim government is taking steps to increase the professionalism and discipline in the security forces so that they can play their proper role in maintaining law and order. Given the way these institutions had been corrupted, this is a huge task. Meanwhile, much of the reported violence is the result of action by individuals and groups who were previously the targets of the regime. This violence is unacceptable and needs to be brought to a stop, just as violence by former regime elements needs to be prevented. But it is simply not intellectually honest to equate the pre-August 5 and post-August 5 conflict dynamics.
