Starting next week, I will be a public health reporter covering gun violence @teamtrace. Really grateful to have the opportunity to cover such an important topic and work with a team whose work I admire so much.
Please send tips and ideas as I get started!
There's so much going on right now that it's hard to know where to focus, but please take a moment to read this @mikehalltexas story about an 18-year-old Venezuelan who was in Texas legally who ICE seized, and who is now in a Salvadoran megaprison.

A doctor in inner city Baltimore, who would sometimes accept no pay if his patient couldn't afford it, lost his health insurance right when he was diagnosed with cancer. His patients stepped up and donated funds to a GoFundMe that his patients set up, his prognosis is good.
Members of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity at Southern University reportedly lied to authorities about where Caleb Wilson’s death occurred.
It took place at a warehouse in Baton Rouge when Wilson was punched in the chest and collapsed, not a park

.@FAANews: FAA staff fired over the weekend included personnel that worked radar, landing and navigational aid maintenance, among others. Hundreds were fired, just weeks after a fatal mid-air collision in DC killed 67. One employee said they were harassed on Facebook by @DOGE prior to being fired. https://t.co/4BXVfKtgWh
Cutting NIH indirect costs is a controversial topic, with pros and cons, but it could be a good thing long term.
On one hand, it could free up more money for direct research, allowing more grants to be awarded and pushing institutions to be more efficient in their spending. Researchers themselves would get more of the grant to actually do the research they set out to do. On the other hand, it risks underfunding the infrastructure that keeps research going—labs, utilities, compliance, and administrative support.
What do you think?
