Specifically, It hasn’t worked because DeFi insurance protocols strayed from the fundamental principle of diversification, creating a high correlation of risk. This undermined their capital efficiency—arguably the most effective tool of the traditional insurance industry.

Additionally, these protocols serve catastrophic risk products, making them extremely capital intensive. Without efficiency, they lack the product capacity to generate yields attractive enough to match the risk taken by stakeholders.

If you can’t pull at least a 100x efficiency and improving as a DeFi Insurer, you need to pack it up. You will have no capacity to serve an ever growing consumer base.
