@JennaleeRalph I agree! Studio recordings are so complex nowadays that most sounds can't be replicated live. Even artists' singing is heavily edited with autotune, so live perfomances can be a disappointment. #POPMUSW22
@KomranMackey I agree. Live cover bands don't get much attention anymore. It is difficult to replicate studio sounds that were created with heavy amounts of editing and autotune. #POPMUSW22
New advancements in recording technologies have definitely made it hard to replicate other artists' songs, especially live. Today's pop audiences might find cover bands disappointing when original recordings of their favourite artists could be played instead. #POPMUSW22
@GojiraKira I agree! "Schlock Rock" took away all of the meaning behind rock and roll. It regressed to earlier styles of music and had no rebellious qualities. It was basically damage control for the payola scandal (and ironically caused another cultural scandal ) .#POPMUSW22
@YarnCurator I agree. The term "schlock" is completely justified. What should have been a respectful interpretation of African-American music was instead an erasure of culture and ownership. It's prioritization of looks/public appeal over talent also justifies an "inferior" label. #POPMUSW22
"Schlock" is an appropriate categorization. This period of rock added no progressive elements to the original music and failed to respect its origins. It has no inherent value, other than historical documentation of cultural theft. #POPMUSW22
@scdrover I agree! Music must have been a great escape from his troubles. By channeling his emotions, he not only relieved himself of his own worries, but provided something relatable and valuable for others. #POPMUSW22
@Monicak40659510 I agree. Lyrics can only take a song so far. Without the emotion of Ray Charles' singing, we wouldn't have been able to 'feel' his songs, and the meanings might have been lost. #POPMUSW22
Voice breaks are often caused by crying/yelling, which are very personal and emotional experiences. I think Ray Charles used a breaking voice in his music to convey these emotions openly and honestly. This style also reflected the passion of his gospel background. #POPMUSW22
@CFloden02 Agreed! Associating economic/social status with certain devices/brands just allows companies to raise their prices more. It also limits our options, as all other competition gets wiped out. #POPMUSW22
@DivyaNachnani I agree, also social media is speeding up the cycle of trends. Many devices that might've been popular for years before will now last months at most. There are hardly any advancements occurring between new devices, yet they sell like wild fire. #POPMUSW22
Streaming services brought much of the music scene online. While I like the ability to easily find new music, it also feels very superficial. What used to be a privilege I now take for granted. I also feel it detaches us from many social aspects/benefits of music. #POPMUSW22
@MarcelPennell1 I agree, there is a much higher demand for catchy songs in recent years. Music has lost a lot of its authenticity because it caters to social media and trends. Artists who make meaningful music probably have difficulties becoming successful nowadays. #POPMUSW22
@emkbutlerr Agreed, anything original becomes the new standard until it is overused. It may not be the fault of individual artists so much as the industry itself. I feel the industry is most concerned with maximizing profit, and will reject those who challenge that. #POPMUSW22
Popular music exponentially appeals to passive audiences. As social media integrates into everyday life, it is getting easier to influence/ condition mass amounts of people. False needs (materialism, substance abuse, etc) are easier to push and individuality is waning. #POPMUSW22
