"just ban guns"
"what about all the of ones that already exist"
"just get rid of them"
"there's 500 million privately owned guns, how exactly does one 'just' get rid of them?"
Common sense solutions are often too simple to solve the problem on their own.

frontier lab CEO says something crazy -> we all act shocked
frontier lab CEO says something crazy -> we all act shocked
frontier lab CEO says something crazy -> we all act shocked
perhaps we should break that cycle?
@skriptble@sudomateo
wealthy people don't manage their own money, they have people to do that for them. that's sort of the problem, those people are required by law to do a good job, and good job does not include doing things beneficial for society. perhaps we should fix that.
@skriptble@sudomateo
there's mess, mess everywhere. large companies aren't well run, they are barely functional entities which somehow scrape by on a daily basis. but to everyone outside? they look like pristine well oiled machines... until they don't.
@skriptble@sudomateo#business#tech
if we just maximize the lines of code we produce and the tokens we burn we might be able to ship the maximum amount possible!
but did you make money? get revenue? achieve a useful goal?
who cares about that stuff?? we're shipping, that's what matters!
@sudomateo@skriptble
we're going somewhere, and we're going there fast! where we want to wind up, who knows, but why's that matter? look how fast we're going! #tech#llms#ai
this just in: everyone's using OpenClaw!
wait, never mind, this week it's Hermes Agent!
oh nope, not quite correct, now it's Pi!
@sudomateo is tired of whipping back and forth between all these agents.
#tech#ai#llms#agenticcoding
it's not just speed we gain from using coding agents, it's the ability to build things we conceptually deeply understanding but logistically don't know the mechanics of. not understanding one low level thing can mean a project gets abandoned. not anymore. @skriptble@sudomateo
cryptocurrencies were supposed to change everything, and then they didn't. but why is that? @skriptble thinks it's because of an inconvenient match between mental models.
@sudomateo#tech#cryptocurrency#hype
is speed or friction better? @sudomateo argues that someone who's got a couple decades of experience should lean toward speed while someone with considerably less experience should lean toward friction. the struggle is the learning, we cannot forget that. #learning#llms
there's no reason to have uninformed opinions. LLMs make mistakes, sure, but so do random people on the internet. don't use "it makes mistakes" as reason to stay uninformed. it's easier than ever to learn, do it. @skriptble@sudomateo#learning#llms#knowledge
New week, new episode! This week @skriptble and @sudomateo discuss their attitudes toward writing code versus coding agents, the irony of AI companies claiming they'll replace all jobs in 6 months while having 300 open roles, and a whole bunch more.

@skriptble found out that an optimization like setting a ZFS dataset recordsize to 4MB can become a nightmare if you throw an SQLite database in there as well. who knew that 1,000x write amplification could be so messy? #softwareengineering#zfs#filesystems
Move Fast and Break Things wasn't the first phrase but it was the most blunt and honest. tech as an industry loves to prioritize speed over all else, including any sense of direction. with AI tools we've doubled down and it's made things much worse. @skriptble@sudomateo#tech
we can't be perpetually six months away from AI replacing all white collar jobs. AI leaders need to start using epistemic markers and if they don't, we should stop believing what they say. @skriptble@sudomateo#language#ai#tech
gaining collective rights often requires collective suffering. if those who would gain are allowed to remove themselves from the suffering, progress stalls. this only works if everyone who gains has also head to bear the weight of the suffering. @skriptble#collectiveaction
using coding agents too much can lead to programming atrophy. for those of us who love to write code, that can be distressing. we must find a balance between prompting and programming or risk losing entire skillsets. @sudomateo#prompting#programming#tech#codingagents
businesses feel the pressure from shareholders and employees feel pressure form the business, so why would the status quo around AI change? @sudomateo#tech#ai#business
what would happen if all the EAs went on strike? it's not just the phones and emails of executives that would go unanswered, business would grind to a halt. @skriptble#business#tech#collectiveaction
