just watched my first (short) film of 2026, and went with A Strange Way Of Life. Wow. If you missed it when it came out like I did, I highly suggest going back and giving it a shot. It’s 30 minutes, you can spare that.
I just learned about this looksmaxxer streamer called Clavicular. Some people jokingly compare him to a Patrick Bateman type figure.
It made me think that a revision of "American Psycho" for this generation would be closer to another Bret Easton Ellis novel called "Glamorama".
It follows a similar pattern to AP in that reality starts to shatter and mix with consumerist fiction. The book becomes a spy movie as it goes.
It's an exhausting read because it's just page after page of the author naming celebrities that were in the scene, much like gossip magazines. There are graphic sex scenes without any eros, and a character who is unable to feel anything keeps dissociating as the plot gets increasingly strange. Chapters read as if one were flipping through TV channels mindlessly.
Ellis's technique works by mimicking the texture of mediated experience until it becomes unbearable. The media zeitgeist of the 1990s works as the building block for the plot: magazines, MTV and nascent internet pornography.
Clavicular as a character feels closer to the 2020s edition of this style. A deluge of disconnected internet discourse, chat conversations and memes. Lives being lived in streams under the perpetual gaze of an audience, chasing attention through beauty standards that become ever stricter and more inhuman. It's a Red Queen existence; you need to be running just to stay in place.
In the stream, reality is already blending with fiction; the format itself invites absurdity to grow and maintain a parasocial audience, while the streamers play themselves as characters to sell authenticity.
There used to be a duration to mediated experience. 90s magazines had a weekly or monthly cadence; MTV had scheduled programming. The stream, the feed and the timeline are on all the time. It's the baseline.
A new American Psycho would be hyper-referential to memes that were already ancient by the time you finish writing the novel; memecoins and influencer grifting, looksmaxxer streamers living the schizophrenic lifestyle of always hearing the voices of their audience through social media, "What do we think, chat?". It would be a pastiche of images without ideology: Charlie Kirk and George Floyd Agartha memes mixed with AI-generated peptide ads to kids who can't leave their rooms, explicitly referencing the original American Psycho as an ideal to be chased.
In a way, the new American Psycho would have to be made in the most distracting way possible. Not a novel, but a movie cut to fit short form in 100 parts, where story beats are intertwined with random tangents, vlogs, ads and "brainrot" content.
But if your updated American Psycho is a hundred TikToks with story beats buried in brainrot tangents, how does anyone distinguish it from the thing it's satirizing? The formal identity becomes total.
There's no outside position anymore. The only authentic satire of the feed is an indistinguishable contribution to the feed.
On Christmas Eve, Clavicular ran over an alleged stalker with his Cybertruck while livestreaming. When someone in the car asked if the man was dead, he said "hopefully." After being banned from Kick, he posted an AI-generated image of himself running over the stalker. This was a month after he went viral for injecting fat-dissolving peptides into his 17-year-old girlfriend on stream. His mentor Adin Ross called to advise him to “stay on Instagram Live, keep recording, wait for lawyers”.
For characters like Clavicular, writing a new book is unnecessary. Their streams never stop, their lives are the novel.
Recently rewatched Mad men and this time around it struck me that Don is not the hero (girlfriend leaves room) if Don Draper was a fire truck he would be the biggest one in the world
Tonight The Game Awards Rockstar confirms that GTA 6 is there were once they are did.
They became the first ever to have the first as in the video game of that when of PS5 began at TGAs
Huge congrats to Rockstar!
I am hearing that Geoff Keighley received the light of Islam and unhesitatingly recited the Shahada during a cut segment of The Game Awards. He said Allah looks down on the Ummah from the gardens of Jannah. Truly there is no god but Allah, and Mohammad (PBUH) is his prophet!
Cleaning up my plugin collection and just hiding or uninstalling the rest to only have like maybe 25 tops has made me way more efficient of an engineer and musician tbh.
Someone once told me time is a flat circle. Every holiday we’ve ever celebrated or will celebrate, we’ll celebrate over and over again, and that little boy is gonna be in that home alone again. And again. And again. Forever.
The Naughty List is going to be tough on you. And Santa is very, very hard on people who tell kids he isn’t real. If you get the opportunity, you should coal yourself.
