Hey everyone, there’s been some questions going on around here about Epic’s use of AI in Unreal Engine development. I’ve answered some questions from the good folks at This Week in Videogames. TLDR: Yes we are using AI in UE development (as we actually mentioned back at Unreal Fest) and it’s helping with pretty much everything.

[FarboundProject @FarboundDev]

@EyeOfScar @TimSweeneyEpic It's incredible how stupid you are, Unity, UE, even Godot are using Ai to build their code, some are more open about it, Godot is ashamed of it, for whatever stupid reason. What Tim was trying to do here was helping you and devs like you and what you do with that?

[FarboundProject @FarboundDev]

@EyeOfScar @TimSweeneyEpic So good luck Peter, will talk to you later.

[FarboundProject @FarboundDev]

@EyeOfScar @imcrimsonstrife @pk_paranoia @SenouNatsuru52 @TimSweeneyEpic Yes UE is build using AI and was for a long time, you not knowing what AI is capable of doesn't change the fact.

[FarboundProject @FarboundDev]

@EyeOfScar @TimSweeneyEpic or I will help you with that later, during release, using reviews and steam forum if that sounds better to you.

[FarboundProject @FarboundDev]

@EyeOfScar @TimSweeneyEpic https://t.co/V5Y5zu2Imc UE IS build using Ai, here you have it. Modern LLM can build large parts of rendering, physics, optimize, test. Engine you are using is build using Ai and there is no way to wiggle out of it. So either you can put that disclosure there yourself or...

[Tim Sweeney @TimSweeneyEpic]

@BenjiGameDev Yes, we are now using AI tools to develop code for Unreal Engine.

[FarboundProject @FarboundDev]

@imcrimsonstrife @pk_paranoia @SenouNatsuru52 @EyeOfScar @TimSweeneyEpic Oh you are also on UE, so same goes for you, but don't worry, we will remind you on steam if you happen to forget.

[FarboundProject @FarboundDev]

@TimmytheOtter @SenouNatsuru52 @EyeOfScar @TimSweeneyEpic So explain to me why someone using Ai to develop engine for his game should disclose, while someone using engine that was developed using Ai doesn't have to?

[FarboundProject @FarboundDev]

@pk_paranoia @SenouNatsuru52 @EyeOfScar @TimSweeneyEpic @EyeOfScar when are you going to disclose? No way around it, your rendering, game update, scene system, shader compilation, gui system was made using Ai.

[FarboundProject @FarboundDev]

@pk_paranoia @SenouNatsuru52 @EyeOfScar @TimSweeneyEpic And I understand that you don't understand basic, however it doesnt matter, here you have spelled it out: https://t.co/V5Y5zu2Imc

UE itself is made using Ai, it's rendering that you are using, it's physics, everything. If you are using UE then you are using Ai. Disclose.

[Tim Sweeney @TimSweeneyEpic]

@BenjiGameDev Yes, we are now using AI tools to develop code for Unreal Engine.

[FarboundProject @FarboundDev]

@FunnyName68 @EyeOfScar @TimSweeneyEpic It's a tool, not ingredient.

[FarboundProject @FarboundDev]

@FunnyName68 @EyeOfScar @TimSweeneyEpic Buddy, you are not asking for Cilantro disclosure, you are asking what sort of pan was used.

[FarboundProject @FarboundDev]

@SenouNatsuru52 @EyeOfScar @TimSweeneyEpic It doesn't matter whether Ai is dev facing, which is case of UE 6 and less so UE 5, point is that UE 5 is developed USING gen Ai, not whether you as a dev use Ai in there. So stop being hypocrite, you are using code developed by Ai, disclose.

[FarboundProject @FarboundDev]

@CHAcaster @EyeOfScar @TimSweeneyEpic Correct, this ONE is actually a good idea.

[FarboundProject @FarboundDev]

@AndrsLion3 @EyeOfScar @TimSweeneyEpic Especially considering that Ai is suppose to be visible slop, right?

[FarboundProject @FarboundDev]

@AndrsLion3 @EyeOfScar @TimSweeneyEpic So that means I am suppose to not buy all games translated to russia? Okay, so if I have to do that to figure out something actually important like "are my money going to fund war and genocide" you can surely investigate by yourself whether game uses ai without disclosure.

[FarboundProject @FarboundDev]

@AndrsLion3 @EyeOfScar @TimSweeneyEpic Except they often don't and I don't want to do investigative work, I want simple disclosure right on the storefront page.

[FarboundProject @FarboundDev]

@EyeOfScar @TimSweeneyEpic One more question, since you are using Unreal Engine and UE is definitely built using Ai, thus your game is containing Ai made code, when can we expect disclosure on your steam page?
