Today, the UNSC unanimously adopted a resolution proposed by the UAE and @JapanMissionUN as co-penholders that condemns the Taliban’s decision to ban women from working for the UN in Afghanistan and calls for the reversal of the policies that restrict women’s rights. It was co-sponsored by more than 90 countries and, for the first time, more than 28 countries from @OIC_OCI.

Banning Afghan women from working with the UN in Afghanistan is an intolerable violation of the most basic human rights.

I call on the Taliban to immediately revoke this decision & reverse all measures restricting women’s & girls’ rights to work, education & freedom of movement.
