In the face of gender-based discrimination and oppression, Afghan women show remarkable courage in demanding and pursuing their rights.
The @UN stands in solidarity with them.
We will never allow gender-based discrimination to become normalized anywhere in the world.
The status of women’s rights in #Afghanistan has deteriorated drastically.
At least 70 Taliban decrees, directives, and practices target women and girls.

🚨 1.4 million girls are still banned from school in #Afghanistan, 3 years after the de facto authorities took power.
It is the only country where girls over 12 & women are denied #education. Their fundamental #RightToEducation must be fully respected. #LetAfghanGirlsLearn!

For millions of people caught up in conflict around the world, life is a deadly, daily, hungry hell.
Record numbers are fleeing their homes in search of safety.
They are crying out for peace.
We must hear them, and act.

People in Gaza are dying not only from bombs and bullets, but from lack of food & clean water, and hospitals without power & medicine.
This must stop.
I will not relent in my call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and the immediate & unconditional release of all hostages.
🚨Breaking: #Afghanistan was hit by another 6.3 magnitude earthquake this morning, shaking parts of the Western region where the earlier #HeratEarthquake killed over 2000 people.
WFP is on the ground providing emergency food assistance to the affected communities.
Once again, children and families in Afghanistan have been affected by a devastating earthquake, this time in western Herat province.
@UNICEFAfg is on the ground with our UN colleagues to assess the full impact. Our heartfelt condolences go out to all families affected.
#Afghanistan: UNAMA Human Rights Service report says 1,600 serious violations committed by de facto authorities during arrests & detentions. Nearly half comprise acts of torture & other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment.

Our world is becoming unhinged & we seem incapable of coming together to respond.
But the @UN was created precisely for moments like this – moments of maximum danger & minimum agreement.
What we need is determination to heal divisions & forge peace.
Happy International #PeaceDay! ✌🏿✌🏽✌🏼
Today, and every day, we call for collective action for sustainable peace and celebrate the millions of people, peacekeepers and community members who strive towards peace together. 🕊 #PeaceBegins#UNGA#PK75
Dreams and hopes of girls and women in Afghanistan have been ripped away.
Their fundamental #RightToEducation has been violated.
This is unacceptable.

At our @UN Headquarters in New York, we can feel the deteriorating air quality as smoke from the wildfires in Canada moves south.
With global temperatures on the rise, the need to urgently reduce wildfire risk is critical.
We must make peace with nature. We cannot give up.
The global food security crisis demands urgent action & hunger cannot wait. Thanks to @USGLC for hosting a conversation on innovative ideas & solutions with @WFPChief@WFP during the Global Impact Forum.
Let's unite to combat #hunger & create a hunger-free world. 🌾🤝 #GIF2023
Today is #WorldEnvironmentDay! 🌍 Everyone can play a role in building a sustainable and peaceful future. 🌱
Recognizing the growing impacts of #ClimateChange is necessary to prevent conflicts and sustain peace.
@UN Peacekeeping is committed to supporting #ClimateAction!
🚨Adopted 🚨
Today, the UNSC unanimously adopted a resolution proposed by the UAE and @JapanMissionUN as co-penholders that condemns the Taliban’s decision to ban women from working for the UN in Afghanistan and calls for the reversal of the policies that restrict women’s rights. It was co-sponsored by more than 90 countries and, for the first time, more than 28 countries from @OIC_OCI.
#UAExUNSC
Banning Afghan women from working with the UN in Afghanistan is an intolerable violation of the most basic human rights.
I call on the Taliban to immediately revoke this decision & reverse all measures restricting women’s & girls’ rights to work, education & freedom of movement.
