@SaoirsedT@michael_chessum Left wingers should take opposition to settler colonial ideologies. If we're focusing on Corbyn - he does. So what's the issue?
@SaoirsedT@michael_chessum You're equating "does not self-describe as an anti-Zionist when prompted to by a stranger with a camera" with "supports the Israeli government", despite Corbyn's long history of supporting the Palestinian cause. This is purely semantic, no?
@PhilipProudfoot But the argument isn't about whether or not people support Palestinian liberation. It's about whether or not people choose to publicly self-describe as 'an anti-Zionist'. Personally I don't think the latter particularly matters provided people do the former.
For those panicking about the purported oxycodone pills found in flour bags in Gaza— Here is some basic education on illicit drug markets that might help.
1. By definition, you cannot become addicted to OxyContin, or oxycodone after taking it once. Period. The definition of addiction is continued use of a drug over time despite escalating consequences. So someone who accidentally consumes a couple of oxy pills will not become addicted. Addiction risks increase when people take Oxy over a prolonged period of time and even then the iatrogenic addiction rate (accidental addiction resulting from a medical mistake) is only 4-6%.
2. Risk of overdose of Oxycodone when taken in small doses is low for adults unless they take large amounts or mix the drug with other drugs such as benzodiazepines (which they don’t have access to in Gaza). It is of course important that small children do not ingest the drugs.
3. Pressed pills that are smuggled are dangerous because we don’t know what is in them unless they are tested. And no— the number stamped on it doesn’t tell us anything. Most pills that are smuggled are counterfeit pills and yes people who manufacture drugs also stamp their supplies. So, in sum, unless the pills are tested, we don’t even know that they are oxy.
4. People who deal drugs, make drugs, or smuggle drugs do not give drugs away for free. So the pills found in the flour bags were not meant to be distributed to the public. From what I have seen in other cases, this looks to me like someone or some entity in Israel has been trying to smuggle the pressed pills into Gaza likely to the organized crime syndicate that Israel has been funding and arming. Why don’t I think it is purposeful contamination of the flour supply? There are plenty of cheaper, easier, & more lethal ways to contaminate flour than to put oxy in it and flour isn’t eaten raw. It is cooked, which would change the drug makeup. Basic chemistry.
@NoTime2Heel@scepticpost@Annemarieward You're attributing a kind of magical quality to drugs that doesnt exist. Drug induced psychosis can present in exactly the same way as other forms of psychosis. In any case, people who experience psychosis pose a far greater risk to themselves than to others. You're fearmongering
@NoTime2Heel@scepticpost@Annemarieward Many people I worked with also used drugs. Many didn't. People who have never used drugs but experience psychosis can behave in very violent and unpredictable ways. What the fuck are you talking about?
@NoTime2Heel@scepticpost@Annemarieward I've worked in multiple residential facilities for people who experience psychosis and none had a "harm-proof room". The people involved have been working with people who use drugs for decades and many have been dependent drug users themselves.
The story so far.
1. I am not a racist.
2. I didn’t post a racist tweet.
3. My tweet did not incite violence against any protected characteristic.
4. My fairly innocuous tweet was deleted a year ago.
5. Senior lawyers say my tweet does “not come near the threshold for criminal prosecution”.
6. But Essex Police upgraded the accusation from Non-Crime Hate Incident to offence under the Public order Act. Why?
7. Essex Police visited my home but refused to specify either the accusation or the accuser.
8. Under pressure, Essex Police deployed the terrorist-fighting Gold Command to investigate a solitary Welsh journalist 5ft 4 inches who still believes in freedom of speech. Weird, I know.
9. This is all nonsense. Deeply sinister, frightening nonsense and wholly disproportionate police over-reach if you ask me.
10. Last night, I realised I no longer feel safe in my own country. A terrible moment.
As Elon Musk said, “This must stop.” It really must.
@elonmusk
@DavidHTower@heraldscotland When you say "hasn't changed anything", what do you mean? Methadone treatment has saved countless lives, both people who stay on it long term and people who use it to come off opiates altogether.
