Everyone has to start somewhere.
SCRY Bio started in an apartment lab.
This week, we packed it up and moved into our first real lab space.
Still scrappy. Still chaotic. Still building DNA computers.
Apartment lab era → real lab era 🧬

UFC is such a crazy sport! @Justin_Gaethje did the impossible and became the lightweight champion 🏆Insane fighter with so much heart. Felt like I was watching a Rocky movie.

@AdamDraper That game was wild. I was going to stop watching at some point, but so glad I didn’t . There’s nothing better than watching a crazy comeback!
A founder got cancer. Did everything. It came back. His doctors told him he was out of options.
So he went "founder mode" on his own cancer.
Today he's in remission.
What I learned watching Sid Sijbrandij's story
Late to this, but had to reshare. Akash was one of the first people I talked to when I was thinking about starting my own company, so it's super awesome to see the work taking off. Honestly, before hearing about Dognosis I had no idea cancer-sniffing dogs were a thing. Wild to see them land in the Journal of Clinical Oncology with 90%+ sensitivity across seven cancer groups from a 10-minute breath sample.
Dogs really do have superpowers.
Our canine-powered bayesian model achieved 90%+ sensitivity and specificity (AUC of 0.962) in a n=1502 trial, with sensitivity stable across cancer types and at Stage 1/2. Largest study of its kind published today in the world's leading cancer journal - JCO
there's no @Cadence for molecular computing.
so we built our own.
when my co-founders and I started SCRY Bio, we realized the tools for designing DNA computers barely exist. the academic ones take minutes to hours just to check if two strands will accidentally stick together. not great when you're trying to wire a neural network out of DNA.
so we started building SURVEIL, our internal design stack.
today we're putting the first piece online. an interactive viewer where you can click through real DNA and RNA structures and see how they fold. it's a small slice of what we use internally every day, but it's the foundation for where we're taking this.
a full design environment for molecular computing. a molecular circuit board.

I wrote a breakdown of what happened to GRAIL and the NHS-Galleri trial. 142,000 participants. Primary endpoint missed. Stock dropped 50%. But the full story is more nuanced than the headlines. What it means for the future of cancer screening:

Computer use is now in Claude Code.
Claude can open your apps, click through your UI, and test what it built, right from the CLI.
Now in research preview on Pro and Max plans.
There is something so wholesome and inspiring about listening to the next generation of scientists and entrepreneurs talk about their work, and what makes them excited. I saw kids building AI detection tools, studying relativity, and talking about concepts I didn't run into until my PhD. It made me realize I really wasn't doing enough in high school or undergrad 😂. Kids these days are doing the craziest things. We love to see it. I think it's important for founders to spend some time away and see what other people are doing. More hyped and energized than ever to keep building out SCRY, and so hopeful about the future generation.
