Is #LongCovid a national security issue?
The CHARM 2.0 study conducted reveals striking findings about Long COVID’s impact on even the fittest among us. Among 899 young, healthy Marines, nearly 25% developed Long COVID, with lasting effects on productivity, physical fitness, and overall performance—despite most having mild initial infections.

"The virus was detected in most organs in the majority of autopsies. Our results indicate that SARS-CoV-2 can replicate, and evolve in a compartmentalized manner, in different body sites, which agrees with the “viral reservoir” theory."

@diannahaze This is a superb article from @zalaly & @EricTopol which explains how Long Covid is a complex multi-systemic disease with sequelae across almost all organ systems.

In the article published in Open Forum Infectious Diseases by Kufel, Pharm D, BCPS, BCIDP and colleagues surveyed ID pharmacist subject matter experts (SMEs) to assess the quality of ChatGPT responses. “Fewer than 50% of GPT-3.5 responses were considered useful by SMEs; responses were mostly considered correct and safe but were often incomplete, suggesting that GPT-3.5 responses may not replace an ID pharmacist’s response” #AI #ChatGPT

'I have patients tell me they were fine the first, and second infection, and after the third something happened to them, and they were never the same.' Brain changes similar to early demenita. Yang Jiang PhD #LongCovid
They infected 34 young volunteers unvaccinated, and provide the first evidence that even MILD COVID-19 can HAVE LASTING EFFECTS on certain MENTAL ABILITIES, even in people who don't feel they have cognitive problems.

Ethical issues aside, this is a powerful addition to an already strong dataset on Covid-driven brain damage affecting cognition & memory. Given new (re)infections remain common, this work together with the Hampshire et al NEJM paper showing drop in IQ (summarized here https://t.co/KrnoJi1rZz) should influence a re-think on current prevention/treatment approaches.
About 10% of people who develop severe Covid have autoantibodies to Type 1 interferon, which doesn't get diagnosed. Now there's a simple assay.
It's also relevant for other life-threatening viral illnesses, and these Abs exist in ~100 million people worldwide.
