Thank you to @olympusamericas and @Merck for supporting National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.
If you have a friend or loved one who left a toxic relationship, they are beginning a brand new journey full of fear, uncertainty, and difficult realizations. They are not out of the woods, but are only accepting that the woods exist and they need to escape them. Know that they need you to support them. Know that they need you to listen when they grieve the loss of all that was familiar. Know that they need you to show up on days they can’t find the energy to get out of bed and face the world.
The New @IntuitiveSurg DaVinci 5 at the ASCRS 2024 meeting.
I have just returned from ASCRS 2024 meeting in Baltimore USA. It was a fantastic meeting and we presented our clinical work on robotic colorectal surgery across multiple robotic platforms which was well received. As someone who has personally completed 700+ robotic colorectal procedures across the Davinci & Hugo platforms, I am always excited to look at new soft tissue robots as they get introduced into the clinical practice. Over the last decade we at @HospitalsApollo@ApolloProton have developed our sustainable robotic colorectal programme with three principle concepts: Subspecialization, Standardising the procedure and achieving cost efficiency using advanced surgical robots. We always look forward to new technology which will add more value to our patients and the surgical team.
At the ASCRS this year, one of the highlights was getting my hands on the new Intuitive davinci 5 robotic platform. This is an impressive iteration in the davinci portfolio. While the master slave concept remains the same, the value additions on the console and the vision cart are clearly palpable and exciting.
The Console: The new ergonomic console is designed to make it more comfortable for the surgeon. Like the way we are able to move the console headrest to suit the surgeon by using a new button on the side. More impressive is the force feedback where surgeons will get live feedback from tissue/instrument on the force being used on tissues. The surgeon is also able to view adjust insufflation pressures, energy settings from the console and much more. The ease at which this can be manipulated from the console screen by using joysticks is pretty cool.
The Vision Cart: This has impressive additions with better visual display, integration of a lap camera for initial laparoscopy, insufflator/evacuation system, better workflow integration to improve theatre efficiency and gigantic computing power using AI and Machine learning
This is an exciting time to be in the field of robotic surgery. And I'm looking forward to using these advanced technologies which improve patient outcomes, better surgical workflow in theatres and more importantly surgeon empowerment and experience. #roboticsurgery #colorectalsurgery
Participate in this quick survey to impact how we define and measure #anastomoticleak. Also an opportunity for @ASCRS_1 members to participate in a focus group to delve deeper into the opportunities & barriers of implementing a new reporting framework @SWexner@patsyllamd
ASCRS Needs your Input!
Anastomotic leaks remain a challenge in colorectal surgery that the CoReAL project aims to address. Please complete this survey to inform the next steps in the implementation of this framework. All answers will remain anonymous.
