53 years ago today, I was ordained a priest in Dublin. Reaching today is not my achievement. People along my way gave me brilliant moments and also carried me through awful events. What a joy this year to be back in Belfast for Christmas Mass in Holy Cross, so full of memories!
The support of people last week on the death of my brother, Philip, helped see our family through a tough time. The power of presence and support of people makes such a difference when hearts are broken by the loss of a loved one. Thanks.
'AGREEMENT' at Lyric Theatre is amazing. I saw it on Friday evening, and it left me emotionally drained. Well done to Jimmy Fay, Exec Producer, Owen McCafferty, Writer. No number of standing ovations can adequately acclaim a wonderful cast. Hope it goes on tour for others to see
Wonderful piece on Bowman:Sunday:8.30 @RTERadio1 on closing of the Harcourt Street railway line. My father Dan Troy, worked this line as a passenger guard for many years. I remember being on the turntable in Harcourt St as the engine was turned for trip back to Bray. Great piece.
My administration for Fr John Joe Duffy. Powerful interview on Morning Ireland. Last night Irish community in Paris were called together by Ambassador Niall Burgess. 10 candles carried to Altar in Irish College Chapel was a moment of closeness to the heartbreak of Cresslough.
Remembering with gratitude influence of David Trimble, with Mark Durkan, in preparing a path to resolve Holy Cross School protest. They met HC governors at Stormont and promised to do all possible to find a resolution. Protest was suspended end of Nov 2001. May he rest in peace.
Did my first jog in 2 years this morning. Surprised to get around route but struggling near end. A lady passing saw this and said one word, 'Bravo'! That one word gave me my '2nd wind'. A positive word lifts, a negative word puts down. Thank you, Lady. Will be hot in Paris today.
New Archbishop of Paris is Laurent Bernard Marie ULRICH (aged 70); he has been Archbishop of Lille since 2008. Replaces Michel Aupetit, Archbishop of Paris until Dec 2021. Archbishop Ulrich will begin his service in Paris on 23rd May. I wish him well he begins this new challenge.
Will always be grateful to Archbishop Desmond Tutu for taking time in Nov. 2001 to talk with pupils and staff of Holy Cross Girls School during the protest. He was a person of peace. I was privileged to have time to talk with him. Rest in well-deserved peace richly deserved.
Thursday, 42 meters below streets of Paris, I blessed RER E line extention linking St Lazare to Nanterre. Above us is a Statue of St Barbara, patron of Fire Service and tunnel drilling. Workers joined in the blessing. My father and grandfather worked all their lives on the trains
Humbled & surprised by number of responses after 13 years gone and 20 years after protest at Holy Cross Girls' School.Thanks. May the years ahead be good for all. If not before, maybe my final resting place be in shadow of Holy Cross Church among people who cared and accepted me.
20 years ago today changed my life as I walked with 225 children and their parents to Holy Cross School. For 3 months they allowed me share in their taking their young daughters to school. Thanks for your trust in me. Today I pray that lasting peace be the road ahead for all. A.T
