@samwise_master @SeaOfGracePod Would love to chat without the character limitation if you wanted. I just think while it may not be perfect, there is a seas of differences between Stormlight and the next best thing. “Always the next step” and “you will be warm again” are messages sorely needed in today’s world.
@samwise_master @SeaOfGracePod I certainly have my gripes with some of the choices but I think ultimately Stormlight has a timeless message that the world needs more of. Morally it may have some pitfalls, but I think for what it does get right it should be championed. No other story nails masculinity so firmly
@samwise_master @SeaOfGracePod I think this is sort of unfair to Stormlight. While there may be some blemishes, the story is deeply profound and morally correct in ways most media fails to be. There may be bits you would disagree with but I think this is throwing the baby out with the bath water.
@master_gamgee My neutral good run of Bauldurs Gate 3 was done on a character named Tanavast 👀
Not quite the same level of commitment as you, but glad to see someone likes Avatar and Sanderson as much as me!
@Acrobuster@PaulTassi I would D3 is probably the worst seasonal experience of any arpg I have played and definitely not what I would describe as a model for seasonal play
@jzhnutz@GreyGaming_@PaulTassi I don’t know that I agree. I’d much prefer a reward system not tied to giving you a set. D3 did have lots of gearing issues.
@jzhnutz@GreyGaming_@PaulTassi Sure, but it is to some extent the game playing itself for you. You’d instantly skip to like torment 10. I think it was ultimately a bad choice. Other games in the genre had much better systems.
@Acrobuster@PaulTassi I’m not saying that has to be for you, but in seasons new builds pop up for you to try that we’re there before. New ways to level are available and new things are there to chase. You can’t experience that by already being maxed.
@scrubicus@PaulTassi POE’s current season added skill trees to weapons. Yes if started with a maxed character you’d have some to grind, but the weapon skill trees changed the way everyone leveled, got to maps, and what maps people chose. You miss out on all the later by already being the max.
@scrubicus@PaulTassi Sure, but if you are maxed already, a season will offer you maybe 6 hours of content (totally pulling that from thin air). You’d grind a new weapon or two and maybe do whatever the new quest is, then that’s it for 3 months. Still no reason to engage with new mechanics.
@BlueJay_42@PaulTassi I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. These games are about the journey where as destiny is more about the destination. If you need reassurance maybe look at POEs seasonal model to get a better idea as to what this will look like. POE is their competition at the end of the day.
@scrubicus@PaulTassi The seasonal content isn’t like Destiny where is it adding on to the end of the game. It is adding new leveling mechanics and ways to gear that you wouldn’t engage with if you were already maxed and fully geared.
@scrubicus@PaulTassi It is an option, you are not forced. Your characters exist forever. Seasons are meant for people who want to engage with the game on that level. There is nothing saying you have to reset.
@itzBonkurz@666718@PaulTassi Oh I agree, and I think that more a game design flaw then a flaw with the seasons. They either have to make the existing grind more varied or more rewarding for sure. Wouldn’t surprise me is the battlepass xp shortens the time greatly.
@scrubicus@PaulTassi I think the mentality that you have to play every season isn’t necessarily true. If a new Poe season comes out and I am busy or it doesn’t look interesting you don’t have to play. Even big streamers skips seasons. You can choose to engage at your own leisure.
@BlueJay_42@PaulTassi So I will say, as someone who plays arpgs all the time, I delete my characters post season. I don’t view it as “making yet another Barb” it is making a season 1 Barb or a season 2 Barb. If it’s anything like Poe, those 2 experiences will be dramatically different.
@itzBonkurz@666718@PaulTassi I can maybe see that, but if seasons are aw game changing as they are in poe I think a lot more people will understand why seasons are important to the genre and fun.
@GreyGaming_@PaulTassi To many though this was the worst part of D3. The game is the loot so being just given is for completing a checklist is sort of out of the spirit of the game. I can see how it seems like a good reward, but it led to some serious problems within D3s endgame model.
